For those who forge, how many have carbon monoxide detectors in your shop?

A friend put one up for me, I am amazed at how many times it signals problems.

If you don't have one, I strongly suggest that it is a wise purchase.

This is good food for thought for when I get to build my new shop.Currently I work in an open air kind of setup.Hopefully I'm not kidding myself but I dont think I need one.
I remember working at IBM, 1 minute running a gas powered cutoff saw indoors set off all sorts of bells and whistles

You should be fine like that Joe. That's how i run my forge currently as well. I havent had a chance to make a hood for my garage, which I do plan on doing eventually. It's easier to tell if you're getting problems with a venturi burner as well because it will start to flutter if you've got not enough oxygen.

I've used a carbon monoxide detector for years in my shop and have never had it go off. I get suspicions it doesn't work from time to time, but then someone will pull a car past my door for a few seconds and the thing goes nuts. It doesn't seem to mind my forge or salt pots, though.

I thought I was a little dizzy when I left your place on my motorcycle, Ed. But now that I think of it, I was dizzy when I got there!
