Anyone know decent suppliers of carbon steel blade blanks? preferably with a decent selection of bowies...dont have the means to forge and heat treat at present (just immigrated from other side of the planet late last year) and got some stuff I want to put together...not looking to spend too much but dont want the paki unknown stainless stuff all over the knife kit supply stores.

Looking for 8 - 10" of blade length to go on a 7" long sambar crown roll.

Thanks guys.

oh god man.

if you have 7" of sambar stag do you have to put it on a kit blank?

For about the cost of a blank kit knife, you could buy a 3x21" sander, and some carbon steel from Aldo make your own blank, and still not spend more than 30-40 dollars more than a factory blank I think.

...and then add heat treat (I mentioned my lack of forge atm), shipping back and forth, etc etc. Some blade blanks pre-treated are quite nice and I got a couple messages to places that seem to have decent stock. I wasn't planning to use paki rubbish.

EDIT: I already have some 5160 stock for when I get a forge up...I am bored and want something to do with my weekends off.

texas knife suppliers and knifekits both have blade blanks that are already heat treated, though I think carbon steel is on the smaller side of their collection if IIRC.

Nor did I intend to imply such a thing. I just thought maybe something you were willing to work on yourself, and using such a nice piece of material on would be worth the added effort in the end. I wouldn't want to rush into using great material, and later think, that would be so much better if I had put it on my "X" knife.

I hope you enjoy the finish regardless of the path you take. I wasn't judging you. :D

It's a $40 crown roll of sambar...definitely not a premium piece that would cost $100 - $200 for now days.

The opposite side has the usual big scar from lopping a tine off. I'm sure its going to look great with a little work and dying the white section to match it up.

Then I must apologize for assuming you would do such a thing. :D
