Queen, Case, Schatt & Morgan, and Great Eastern Cutlery (and several others) all make carbon steel folders.

FWIW Cumberlandknifeworks carries all of the above brands.

i sould have said i was looking preferably for a liner or frame lock....not like a slipjoint.....do they make anything like that.....ryan

Mission makes a very expensive ti framelock w/A2 . I believe now only in Tanto, unfortunately. Excellent quality.

EKA knives from sweeden makes some carbon versions of their stuff. Check Ragnar's http://www.ragweedforge.com/eka-catalog.html

Case has a Stainless, and a carbon steel line they call CV ( chrome vanadium). It's the same steel cold steel ( carbon V) and camillus used.

Boker has several lines of carbon steel, some C75 ( like 1075) some 1095

several other companies also make slippies and backlocks as in above post. BTW, Opinels are pretty nice for the money IMO. Joe

What I'm hearing is that ryan9977 wants a modern-style folding knife, probably a single-hand opening knife with a pocket clip and thumb stud/hole and a carbon steel blade. This is exactly what I've wanted for years, too.

One knife that basically fits the description is the Whisper Folder by John Greco, a maker in Kentucky. I have one myself. It's a tank of a folder which uses 3/16" thick, 8670 carbon tool steel for the blade. John's knives are well-made, very reasonably priced and he's a great guy to do business with.

I personally don't carry the Whisper often, though, because the steel handle cuts into my hand and the knife isn't made with a pocket clip. If John re-designed the handle and maybe added some Micarta overlays to the steel slabs, it'd probably skyrocket in sales and popularity. Here's a link to the knife on John's website:

trout....thanks for the link....that is pretty much what i am looking for i think....how do u like the steel i am not familiar with it.....thanks guys for all the other suggestions...ryan

Mooremaker is good stuff, but a bit overpriced. If I'm not mistaken Queen, and other companies make their knives. I think their headquarters is a feed/saddle/leather type place that caters to real ranchers and cowboys.

By the way Ryan, Spyderco did a military and paramilitary sprint run in CPM D2 steel. Good stuff, but getting harder to find. Joe

John also makes the Falcon folder. If you get the attachable micarta scales, it's really nices. The edge comes in pretty thick and the knife is kinda heavy. Other than that, it's a really nice folder.

Ryan, you're welcome. The blade of this knife is 3/16", which is extremely thick for a folder. It won't win any slicing/whittling contests, but it's as tough as you'd ever need for a folding knife.

The steel is 8670, which is a carbon alloy. Greco puts a stonewash finish on the blade which keeps rust at bay wonderfully. The steel is easy to sharpen, takes an amazing edge, and holds it well. It's a great carbon steel with a good heat treat.

Keep in mind this knife doesn't come with a pocket clip. It'd be a simple matter to add one yourself, though, via buying a clip from an online knife supply company and either drilling the holes yourself or having a friend or knifemaker from here do the work. If you have a mind for having a clip installed and you plan on asking a local maker to do the work, use the knife for a few weeks and see how you like the blade's thickness. That way, if you choose to have it ground thinner or with a different geometry, the maker can work it all to your specs in one, fell swoop.

Good luck and keep us apprised of your purchase - we're here to live vicariously through each other, after all! :D

I didn't know John still makes the Falcon; I actually prefer it. I was also unaware of micarta scale options. Any chance you could post a pic of a Greco folder with the micarta scales attached, kidwholaughs?

That Moore Maker posted above was exactly what I was going to recommend.

Case also makes a folding hunter with pocket clip, thumb stud, amber bone, and CV.
