OK, I just stripped my BK-2 and want to polish it. Can I just use regular old metal polish, or do I need some special stuff for Carbon steel?

Depends on how hig a polish you want. If you want to do it proper....lots of sandpaper throughout a whole range and THEN metalpolish.

Make sure to look for polishes made for hardened steel, at least. Others might work to some degree, but polishes made for jewelry & silver (gold, silver, brass and other soft metals) won't be as fast. The difference is in the abrasives used. Polishes made for steel will usually contain aluminum oxide (Flitz, Simichrome are examples). Others may only utilize silica (Brasso is an example), which won't be as effective on hardened steel, but are formulated with gentler abrasives to avoid stripping gold/silver plating off of jewelry or other items. As with any abrasive, they might still work, but some will need a little more 'elbow grease' and time.
