There's one other aproach your friend could go. Browse the E-bay and look for an old but good shape vintage knife and put it back in service. Theres alot of old but still very usable knives for sale at reasonable prices, and even though they may be old, they will still take a great edge and cut good.
I've gotta go with case, they make several differnt patterns and styles of stockman both in cv and ss. If you can find an old timer {american made} i was always pleased with them. later,ahgar
