Carbon V heat treatment

A while ago I bought a Cold Steel "true flight thrower" in Carbon V. I would like to sand off the epoxy coating and heat treat it so that I could add a handel and have a fairly decent utility fixed blade. (the steel is to soft to hold a sharp edge now)
Does anyone have any ideas?
Thanks!

That should work. There are varied rumors about what Carbon V has been at various times.... I would try treating it like any plain ordinary carbon steel -- harden by heating to nonmagnetic and quenching, then temper to taste, 375 to 425 degrees Fahrenheit depending on whether you want hard or strong. If you're ambitious you could try differential tempering. Unlike some of the high-alloy steels, if it doesn't come out the hardness you want first try you can start over.

P.S. Don't bother sanding off the epoxy paint; it should burn off when you harden it.
