care and maintenance paper work,business cards,and warranties

Hey Guys!

I was trying to write up a care and maintenance"brochure" to send with my knives and was having trouble wording it and getting what I want across. I know how to take care of a knife I was just wondering if you send a "brochure" with your knives what they say.

Also,do any of you have any WRITTEN warranty that go with your knives? I believe many of you would replace a defective knife or one that is your fault but do you have any written warranty?

And lastly is when someone buys a knife from you what all do you send along in the package in the way of business cards and paper work(a card that says what wood and steel the knife is made of, or a card with the maintenance suggestions etc....)

I send a warranty paper which has the care and maintenance included in the text. My warranty states the knife is warranted against defects in materials and workmanship etc. for the life of the knife. Additionally, it lists some things that are not covered. My warranty also states the serial number of the knife as well as a brief description of the knife. Lastly, I sign it.
 
I had my business cards printed with spaces on the back including knife number, date, handle material, steel, RC hardness, and two lines for other info. I fill one out and sign it and send it with the knife.
 
I send a letterhead letter describing the knife and including two matching business cards but no mention of warranty. I have only been asked twice about a warranty and I stated that I would replace or refund for any reason as long as was alive. Last year a man brought a Damascus knife back that was snapped into two pieces about a 1/2 inch in front of the scales. He said that he fell off a ladder with the knife in the sheath in his back pocket and landed on the knife and it broke. I made a snap decision to make him a new knife that was very similar and made it as well as my skill allowed. I gave it to him about six weeks later and about 4 months after that he made an appointment to come to my house to look at some knives and bought four of my best knives for top dollar. I was dumbfounded again but even if he hadn't bought another knife from me it was worth replacing the knife for my piece of mind and reputation...not as the best knife maker on earth but as a person you could buy a knife from without any reservations about the quality. I keep the two pieces of the knife so that if someone asks about my policy on warranty I can show them the knife ( that I suspect was misused ) and that I replaced. I should mention that the man told me he used the knife hard for a year on "everything from fixing his motorcycle to cutting electrical wire and the pieces of the knife show the hard use and wear. He repaired wind machines in Mojave and Tehachapi , California . I'm sure that some knife makers would have handled this situation differently but this is what I did. Larry
 
I have the opposite problem with my work. I use to write instruction manuals and product reviews. I end up with books instead of care sheets. :(
 
Stacy's letter also says that the knife is really sharp and you could cut yourself if you are not paying attention.
Still sharp and hasn't drawn any of my blood yet.
