Hi guys. I've never had a carbon damascus blade before, and am now looking at picking one up. I've had plenty of carbon steel (1095, O1, etc) but how does carbon Damascus compare in terms of rust resistance, edge holding, etc? Should carbon damascus pick up a patina and, if so, does it dull the appearance of the etching? Any info you guys can provide is much appreciated!

Carbon Damascus will patina and spot with use just like any carbon blade. It's near impossible to get spots off without affecting the etch. You can use some type of protectant like Renaissance wax but if you're going to use the knife, it's something you have to live with. Burt Foster told me years ago to use RIG (firearm grease) for long term storage.

I would recommend you take a long look through the many threads in the Custom forum, tons of information there.
