Careful, you will put your eye out

That was a very close call ! Good of you to consider others by passing this on  Condolences on your loss and wishing you a speedy recovery ...

Sorry about your loss.

As for your injury, I think you should consult a lawyer. Seriously (judging by your handle, it seems like you may know one). If the gun is defective, other people could be in danger. Plus, I'm sure your medical bills are piling up. I'm the last person to tell someone to take legal action, but in your case it seems warranted.

Best of luck in your recovery.

Smoke up for you for the loss of your aunt, and wishes for a complete recovery from the accident.

I hope things go better for you from here on in!

Damn man, that looks like a terrible heat treat on the slide. The frame looks semi normal, the barrel doesn't look buldged, but the slide is craked in half

Usually if it was a double charge it would blow the frame in 2, or at least buldge it like a SOB.

Do you have any upclose pics of the frame?

And have you contacted Kel Tec? That definitely looks like a problem on their part. Also, do you have the casing of the round that caused the kaboom?

Good thing you were earing glasses, that's an aweful incident.

Glad your face didn't get a worse beating. Hopefully everything goes well and someone at Keltec picks up the tab

I bought 6 Bersa Thunder 380's from a dealer buddy of mine a couple years ago and sold them to people i work with. One of my bird hunting buddies was shooting his shortly after i sold it to him and he had a similar accident. The slide hit him in the forehead above his right eye and he had to get 16 stitches. He called me the next day and told me about what happened and i freaked out! He told me he was shooting hand loads that he loaded for his Sig 380 and he must have done double charge in one of the shells he shot. A couple weeks later we took the rest of his 380 ammo and removed the bullets to check to see if any others were double charged and we found 3 more out of about 40 rounds. So federal might have made a boo boo like this in your case. Get well soon and keep wearing shooting glasses!

From your title I guess you will know the ropes ... but don't send the broken parts back to Kel-tec until you have had your own metalurgy analysis done on the slide and frame and barrel. They may say they need to examine the pistol to determine liability and fair enough ... but if it goes missing and you have'nt got a report done ... vital evidence is irreplaceably lost ...

Your face injuries are bad but look like they will heal well ... the trauma of it all etc is a different matter ... hope you have a speedy recovery and thanks for this "heads up" on what happened.

Makes me realise that the trend to shooting main stream calibres in ever more smaller and lighter guns is something to be careful with. I more or less have shot all sorts of pistols through the military but my own pistol for the last 20+ years has been a Sig P210. I got it for it's balance and accuracy and whilst I was aware they are built to last I did'nt factor this too high in my reasons for making this choice ... but incidents like this give you pause for thought as to valuing this a lot more.

Doug,
My condolences to you and your family.

On a different note you are a very lucky person to have not sustained alot worse injuries not that the ones you did get aren't bad enough. Eyes and ears Always. Could have been a flaw in the gun or a hot load. An expert will be able to tell.

Hope you make a full recovery physically and mentally.

I'm just glad that more damage wasn't done. You take care, over there! Shooting is a fine hobby ... as long as everything keeps moving down-range.

As for me, I'm quite happy that eye and ear protection became a habit long ago.

And wondering if I should design a full-face mask!
