I found a Buck that I've had on my list for several years.I made a reasonable offer and the seller accepted it,so I purchased it.I asked the seller to please close the blade into the body of the knife before he shipped it,so the blade wouldn't pierce the wood box.

Unfortunately he didn't even preform that remedial request. This is how it appeared after I opened it.Not only did the blade pierce the box but it also broke out a piece from the opposite side.

I've had the same thing happen, so sorry for you. That is a nice knife. You bad you can't fix careless. Preston

That is a shame. Your request is the same one that I always make when buying a knife in a display case. In addition to asking them to close the blade, I also ask them to remove the knife from the case and wrap them separately for shipping. As best I can remember, and I guess that I have been fortunate in this regard, every seller that I have dealt with has always complied. On the bright side, at least it appears that the knife itself was not damaged. Those display cases occasionally show up for sale as well so perhaps you can replace it sometime in the future. Although those specific cases are not longer available, there are some very nice later DYH cases with glass tops for the 110/112 that can still be purchased. PM me if you are interested as to where those may be purchased. I would leave appropriate feedback for the seller.

There's true horror stories of extremely rare Buck damaged in shipping..Since the display IS damaged you can ask the seller to make a adjustment in the price and if the knife itself is damaged just get your money back. Especially since you asked him to package it safely and he did not..

They should make those padded mailers illegal! How many have gotten ANIB knives with the factory box crushed from being damaged in those mailers in transit?

I like any knife with an American theme, eagles, flags ect.ect.The knife, otherwise, is in new condition.

That's good know and thank you for your offer.
From now on I'll request the seller to package the knife separately from the display case.

I was so angry that I thought I should wait a day to contact seller,so I wouldn't say something that I would regret.LOL

when I ship I always separate the knife and securely wrap it out of the case.....just so you know there will be some cases offered to bcci members next week at the factory---oops I didn't say anything...

half the 903's I've bought have the knife sticking in the case or a broken wall display due to poor packaging. non knife people don't even think of what a 1+ pound blade can do to wood and cardboard......

I had the exact same problem as the OP and when I mentioned it to the seller he jumped all over me even saying he had my address and he only lived about 100 miles away and was going
to come over and get the knife from me and teach me a lesson. I have received dozens of knives poorly packaged and several have torn up the inner linings.
I have received several knives from STEELHEADBULLY as well as DOGPOUND and they were always packaged extremely well. Not a chance anything would get damaged.
Over packaged if anything. Iif there is such a thing.

OK, I'm going to temporarily high jack this thread, but am really looking forward to the opportunity to see those when you bring them back. :D:D

That's a real shame.

Now personally ( this may make some cringe ) I would carry the knife since the box to display it in is now damaged.
Probably not a wise idea, but that's what I'd probably do.

Poor shipping is my biggest problem. I've had the exact thing happen as in the OP more than once as well as crushed boxes. I almost always message the seller now, I feel like I'm being insulting but it has helped. Most take it well and reassure me they will pack carefully. Don't get me started on sliced up velvet liners...

If you are paying a lot of money for a knife like that the very least a quality seller should do is package the knife properly. If it were me, my dissatisfaction would be reflected in my comments and rating on his site, if he has one (after I settled with him).

Having gone thru the tribulations of having a large custom home built, my brother came away from the experience believing that everyone should get a one time lifetime pass on killing a contractor. It would clean up the trades in no time. Perhaps we could apply the same policy to bad sellers....

Look closely at the picture.... that's right.... the seller stabbed the point of the knife into the side of the wooden display box and wedged it against the other. Funny thing, I also purchased an air impact wrench on eBay the same week, something nothing could hurt. It was double boxed, foam padded and shrink wrapped.
