Careless Sellers.

I was going to start a thread like this last year. I had so many poorly shipped packages, damaged knives, boxes, and wood display boxes I just was baffled. Some of the displays case/boxes are rare and unusual, so it kills me to see what the seller and the shipping company does to them.

I had been looking for one of these for years. The knife slid around in the box like a slide hammer so much it turned the velvet covered foam to dust and broke the walnut laser seen box. The foam stuck to the gold etched knife like glue/tar.

Another just like some others here, the photo shows it all.

I could keep going maybe I'll add of these horror stories later.

how stupid it is to ship a knife in an envelope!!! I don't get it are people really that stupid????:confused:o_O:mad: I don't even ship sheaths in an envelope--I use a box--I mean a box 12x4x4 is only 30 cents...I believe your item should arrive safe and secure right!!!!:D:)

It appears you could probably carefully fix the box and you wouldn't even be able to tell it was broke.
But I'd still want some type of compensation for the carelessness of breaking it.

Contact David Yellowhorse and ask if he can fix the display box for you. He may even fix it for free, no harm in asking.

David Yellowhorse really is a great guy! In Atlanta I showed him a early 'Lacy' that I had bought used and he graciously offered to clean it up but I had to say no thank you because a DY knife that was actually used is a true rarity! So many of his knives never see any use at all..

I bought an old Kalinga, in the original box. You may know how the box looked like after transportion from the USA to Germany with a detour to the customs.

It's amazing that this happens apparently on a regular basis! Who would ever think to send a knife loose in a display case?

A forum member just gifted me a Gerber L.S.T ultralight that was packed way better than this valuable collectable Buck, and it weighs nothing.
I've gotten knives from forum members on various occasions, bought, won, or gifted, they were all packaged very well.
None of them had more value than their use, yet were packed better than the costly blades in this thread.
I don't understand how someone can be so dumb as to pack a costly knife so poorly.

just got an older 650 on ebay. shipped in envelope....no padding knife in sheath. plastic insert in sheath broke and plastic handle got a good whack and cracked it from shipping. sheath is toast but gonna try to epoxy/glue the plastic handle and see if repair holds.

not a huge deal as I didnt pay much for it but a shame as it could have survived in a simple box with some padding.

The excuse I usually get is "what more do you want for $5 shipping" or for free shipping.

I would gladly pay a few dollars more for better packaging. The seller sets the cost.

THIS THREAD REALLY STRESSES ME!!! It's happened to me more times than I can bear to remember...and I always know it's gonna happen, and I always ask the Seller to pack it so that it won't get damaged, and I always (okay 99%) get a damaged shipment. PLEASE stop posting to this unbearable thread! I'd stop reading, but misery loves company...

Talk to DP thru a PM and maybe he's got something that would like and when you get it, you won't believe how well he packs his knives. When I get one or two or three from him it looks like Christmas exploded with all the wrapping. I never have to worry about damage.

gedlicks packs his the same way.

They've been around a long, long, long, long, long time and know how to do it... I can say that because they're older than me...:D:D:D:D:D:D

You have to remember, a lot of sellers on the bay barely know what they have, let alone how to pack it...

I received a bearded hawk/spike hawk with a shaving sharp edge. No sheath... in a padded envelope. The envelope looked like Wolverine had taken several swipes at it. The seller taped a rubber piece to the spike and beard. With scotch tape. The mail lady handed me the package, and 3 inches of razor sharp axe blade (sharp on both sides) was poking out, right by her wrist, ready to cut her veins.

Seller gave a verbal shrug when confronted. Meh.... I paid for the shipping too. Paid for insurance.

At least the knife came out ok! I have had lots of close calls with eBay shippers and will make specific shipping requests sometimes now.
