Anyone have a good recommendation on Cargo Pants that are not BDU's or "Tactical"? I want a good set for general utility and hiking in the fall.

Duluth Trading makes a "fire hose" canvas work pant with a "if you can wear a hole in them, we'll replace them" warranty. I have a pair of the lined version for working outside in the winter and they're great.

for warmer weather, I really like the Eddie Bauer canvas cargo's. durable, not tacticool looking, and fit pretty well.

Even though the FBI uses them, I don't consider the 5.11 brand "tactical", as they are just cargo style pants. Maybe give them a look. The come in the old style cotton, and a newer polyester tac-lite (or some such) flavor too. They are on the spendy side, though. But good stuff.

Zip offs... I have North Face and REI brand. For the price I prefer the REI brand. It's pretty much all I wear anymore.

Riggs work pants, love em. Not very expensive, made fairly tough, have a leather patch where you'd clip a knife, hammer loop, reinforced rear pockets and doubled knees that still bend. So far my favorites for work and play in the fall.

Need to try the Duluth ones though, have heard good things.

+! on the Duluth Trading cargo pants. The fire hose cloth is amazing.

another +1 for duluth. I have managed to wear some holes in a couple of pairs though.... still debating on whether to send them back since it took five years to make the holes.

The basic 5.11 design is for mountaineering and was created by Royal Robbins. The very "5.11" is a climbing term and not a tactical term. That loop above the back right pocket is for caribiners.

Get non camo BDUs. I've worn them for years. Best thing out there.

I use the Woolrich light weight rip stop tactical pants for 3 gun. They are a lot lighter weight than the 5.11's. I think that with the popular exposure to desert camo BDU's worn by returing service men and women, they are not really out of place. Most of my shooting is done in Florida heat, but it got down to high 20s at Ft Benning last year...poly propylene long undershirt, nylon shirt, fleece jacket, gore -tex parka, balaclava, watch cap, wool socks and a couple of hand warmers and I was good to go...had to stick one of the hand warmers in the mag well of the G34, and made sure the Benelli was in the sun..had to scrape some white stuff off the windshield (I was told it was some form of atmospheric anomaly). regards Les

My wife and I wear the exact same BDU size. MR tops and LR bottoms.
