Cargo Pants

Another vote for the Wrangler Riggs Ranger pants. Three colors and made with rip stop and double material over the thighs.
I have 4 pair and two more ordered.

The basic 5.11 design is for mountaineering and was created by Royal Robbins. The very "5.11" is a climbing term and not a tactical term. That loop above the back right pocket is for caribiners.

i have a pair of 5.11's and love them. they seem to be made of good matierial and i love the way they stretch with my movement. however i will give those wranglers' bdu's at walmart a try:thumbup: 15 bucks is 15 bucks :D

For around town, I like Patagonia cargo pants ... and with their no hassle guarantee, they'll replace them [without question] if anything blows out or they don't meet your standards. For hiking though, I hate cotton. Therefore, I use Patagonia Guide Pants when hiking or climbing. I've had a pair for 9 years and I abuse the crap out of them. They're made from a synthetic material. I also like the look of TAD Gear's force 10 cargo, though haven't ponied up for a pair yet.

Patagonia is a little spendy, but their stuff is bomber. If it doesn't meet your expectations, they'll give you a refund - no questions asked.

Agreed! I have a couple of their "black hole" duffel bags and they are crazy tough.

About a month ago, I returned a pair of pants to Patagonia [not the ones mentioned above] and when I attempted to explain why, they gave me zero hassle: "OK, we can give you a full refund or you can go pick-out something else ..." It's hard to argue with that flexibility.

I like wearing RailRider Adventure Pants for carrying my 'cargo', hiking, chainsawing, whatever outdoors.

TAD Gear makes some great, long wearing, cargo pants. They are made in the states and have a price tag to prove it but for they quality and fit I think they are worth it.

Thats why I support them. They are local, use local manufacturers, and have great quality. They are a bit more expensive, But I like the look, utilitarian aspect and they are fun people to go in and shoot the poop with. That said, a $65 pair of Timberland cargo's lasts half (or less) as long as the TAD cargo's, so I justify the price just fine. Their double reinforced seat is worth it alone. I ride a motorcycle, and the most common thing for me to do is wear out the butt of my pants

I wear a lot of different "tactical" pants at work. We have to conceal for work, and I like having cargo pockets, so I opt for cargo pants over normal khaki's. I have tried the LA police gear BDU, and tactical pants, and they are not a good value. They are cheap, but the quality is poor. The stictching is weak, and the material doesn't feel durable.

I have used the 5.11 Tactical pants, and they are okay for the money, but they tend to fade very fast if you get the darker colors. They are certainly more durable than the LAPG brand, and overall higher quality. The velcro is really weak, and wears out fast if you use the pockets a lot. If you get 5.11 pants, I strongly recommend the Taclite pro series opposed to the normal line. The taclite pro is 65% nylon which makes it much lighter and more comfortable than the 100% cotton IMO. It also has another small pocket on the right thigh that is good for a knife/flashlight.

I never knew that Cargo was actually a brand name until I bought some of their shorts at Target a few weeks back. Pretty darn good stuff compared to the Wrangler shorts and others you usually find at the discounters and they were only $20! An extra $5 well spent IMO.

Yep, another +1 for the Duluth fire hose, but only for cool weather. If you are doing warm/hot weather hiking they might be too heavy for comfort.

Kakadu's gunworn canvas is AWESOME!!! They have a pair of Walkabout pants too that are more hefty for bushwacking through briars etc. Double and triple stitching at the seams. I tried ordering a pair from OutdoorPros which took about a month and a half for me to respond asking where the heck my pants were... they said they had no clue and I got no farther responses so I lost 54 bucks-but if you can find another US distributor that's the route I'd go.
