I'm looking for a new jacket for this winter and have been wondering about Carhartt. Seems to be a company that sells tough, work clothes.

Anyone have any opinions on the company? :o

Nothing wrong with Carhartt. However, in recent years Carhartt has moved a lot of it's production "down south" to compete. While there's nothing wrong with staying alive (as long as you're producing a quality garmet), that move brought them into competition with other garmet makers, price and quality wise. So check out LL Bean's field coat. Competitive product and free shipping. Don't let the Carhartt name sell you. They are good but they are not the best. Cheers.

top stuff, carhartt is made in irvine ky,bout 15 mins away,i have had there clothes for years..
if you are out in the cold alot get the hoodie, thank me later...

I'm a big fan of carhartt, especially their double front pants and overalls. My favorite jacket is a 15 yr old carhartt insulated that's still running strong.
But Harry is right, don't let the just the name get you. Lots of people don't like carhartt for various reasons. I definitely vote that you at least try one on tho

Before moving back into construction, my son worked for a tree trimming company for a few years (tree climber and bucket truck bucket man). A lot of his work clothes pretty much disintegrated from it. I bought him a Carhartt lined duck cloth jacket. As tough as that job was, the jacket looked new all the time. He still has it and it is none-the-less for wear. I can't speak to some of their new stuff, but the traditional duck cloth jackets? Recommended.

Carhartt is the best. Check out the Detroit jacket. Similar cut as an old Levi's jean jacket, but great all around coat, no hood, blanket lining (not a fan of their quilted nylon lining, unless it's in their insulated wear, then it's excellent), and the cloth gets better and more comfortable with wear. I like their jeans as well.

Take a look at Duluth Trading. They are mail order. I have purchased pants, coats, vests and jackets. Their "Firehose fabric" is just as tough (in my opinion) as Carhartts duckcloth and is softer and easier to break in. Pricing is somewhat comparable. I have a lined coat that has really done well. The pants have a gusset in the crotch which makes them very comfortable to wear.

I grew up with 'em, and several years ago they decided to be trendy or something, I can't attest to their newer offerings.

DULUTH TRADING COMPANY!!!! They make coats made out of fire-hose grade canvas.
These are as overbuilt as a Sebenza.

The stuff I have of theirs is great, but I really recommend comparison shopping the exact item you want. For example, I have one of their soft hoodies that I think is best in class, but when it comes to a "hard" hoodie (heavy outer fabric , light lining) Sears makes one that is almost a copy of the Carhartt hard hoodie- except it has a cell-phone pocket the Carhartt doesn't and a better zipper- for about half the price.

They have also moved into more "technical" clothing (modern materials) and I got a waterproof, breathable jacket of theirs with a removable hood that I couldn't beat anywhere, even for more $$$ (at least as far as the features I wanted).

So my experience is that they are good quality, sometimes overpriced, sometimes not. Hope it helps.

Well
I'm from California and I had never heard of Carhartt
I moved to Colorado for a spell, and Carhartt is all the rage:eek:
They have extreme brand loyalty in Colorado, from my observations

My cousin gave me my deceased cousin's :( Carhartt jacket
I love it!!!!!!:D
It's warm, looks cool, looks like quality craftsmanship
What more could I ask for?
Carhartt may have a new fan:thumbup:
Depending on price , of course ;)

I'm not really a fanboy, but I generally like Carhartt stuff. I wear their B17 blue jeans every day. They wear out a little quicker than I'd like, particularly near the rear pocket corners and the front of the fly. That said, I like the fit, so I stay with 'em. Haven't had any crotch blow-outs or anything.

I wear Carhartt shorts a lot - have two or three pairs of B144 work shorts and a pair of cargo shorts (can't recall the style number).

Come winter time, I wear Carhartt K126 long sleeve T-shirts quite a bit.

I don't really wear coats all that much here in Texas, even on the coldest days, but I've used the hooded duck cloth jackets over the years.

I've had a Walls brand duck chore coat I got from Tractor Supply years ago, and it was a nice coat as well.

I wear a Carhartt winter coat for work (construction), and I think it's the best I've ever had. My light jacket is a Carhartt too come to think of it. Real quality and good against the Canadian cold.

Definitely not as good as it used to be. I wore their insulated hooded sweatshirts like it was a religion. The plant I work in, you have to wear flame retardant coveralls over your clothes, so I needed something extremely warm, but thin, so I didn't look like the kid from "A Christmas Story". I went through 2-3 over the years on the 4 one, it was TOTALLY changed. Completely lighterweight and didn't cut the mustard in the Upstate, NY winter. So disappointed. That was like 4 years ago.

Take that for what it's worth.

Anyone else ever notice that when companies move things from the US to China or elsewhere the prices stay exactly the same or go up anyways? What kind of bullshit is that!?
