Carhartt Jackets

Scotchgard it!

Last night I wish I would have done just that. I was washing my middle weight Carhartt that is light in color after leaning over a piece of equipment and getting grease on the front and arms of the coat.:D

They're popular around here. If it gets real cold, I wear a heavyweight Carhartt hooded sweatshirt underneath. The winter temps are usually single digit to 20s with extreme temps dipping to -15 or -20.

For downhill skiing, I still prefer synthetics/down. I find the hi-tech stuff is warmer, lighter and more comfortable during a day of skiing at high elevations.

I wear Carhartt every day to work(Industrial Construction), both pants and shirts. They last longer than jeans and are very comfortable new, but especially once you get them broken in. The pockets don't get holes in them and the seams stay stitched. I have accidentally burned holes in some of my pants and they don't unravel past the holes, not to mention the material protected my skin well from the heat before the hole formed. When it gets colder outside, the Carhartt overalls and coveralls come out. When it gets colder than that, layers of lined Carhartt pants and overalls, and a Carhartt jacket. They break the wind well and even hold up to mild rain well. They are outstanding clothes for working around abrasive, sharp and otherwise dangerous items. As others have said, layers really help fight the cold, but a Carhartt jacket is a great outer layer.

They're good for work, I work in a ship yard (building a ferry boat right now), so I need my clothing to be tough and non-flammable. I wear carhartt pants everyday, bibs at work every day and I also own a vest and a jacket. The jacket gets very little use here since never gets real real cold. Maybe in the teens if we have a very cold winter.
That being said, I don't wear my carhartt jacket in the woods. I have much lighter and more water proof clothing. The biggest reason I wear carhartt clothing at work is because it won't burn like synthetics. If I didn't work in an environment where this was an issue I'd probably wear a lot more synthetic clothing.

Look at it this way. Every man (it seems) in the state of Michigan wears a Carhartt coat in the winter. They make a bunch of models that are plenty warm. I have a soft shell Detroit jacket that is water repellent and a little streatchy. It's great if you don't like the construction site look, although it's not nearly as warm as the wool lined more traditional ones.

My $.02 I've worn Carhartt for over 20yrs. I work outside as an Ironworker. They are pretty tough. The new ones even look nice. I remeber when they were only brown. I wear the coveralls also. The work well in cold ,cool weather. But no matter what you won't stay dry in the rain. Showers they would be find. But trying to waterproff them never worked for me. I've had at least 30-40 coats. Most I've never even bought= Co jackets. I wouldn't want to wear a wet heavy Carhart if its raining

Best review here!!
I feel the same way, great durability but poor in waterproofing. I wear the bibs and jackets all the time for work as a pipefitter, but when it rains or snows time to wear something else.

It gets really cold here mid winter -20F , -30c ,and Carrhartts are all I ever wear. I got 4 , 3 duck ,one black nylon. When it's cold , it's usually snowing. Rain is not usually an issue. They are really tough coats. They are stiff before getting broken in ( The duck ones.) They are reallywarm with a hoodie underneath. Poly-pro undershirt ,T-shirt ,hoodie, and Carrhart are my winter layers. My favorite is the Dearborn jacket.

I've been wearing Carhartt jackets for years and wouldn't trade them for anything.

Warm and Durable.

I love my carhartt clothes. I wear my jacket all winter in the woods and am fine.. It does not rip easy and keeps me warm. The jeans I wear year round but that is only because I like the different colors. The bibs ill wear out partying for all I care but it works for me and keeps me warm. But like others have said. In heavy rain it works like most of my other clothes and doesnt repel. But how many times do I really go out in the woods if I know there is going to be heavy rain? Almost never. otherwise ill wear my actual rain jackets.
