I can't say for any of those countries specifically, but it's common in a lot of central american and caribbean countries to see about half the population carrying 30" machettes. Anything less than a 10" fixed blade might get you laughed at
In Belize, for example, when kids act up in school they are given a machette and told to cut the grass in the school yard.
