Caring for black micarta inlays

Neutral shoe polish works well on ivory. I have a Mnandi with bark ivory i use at work and it went a couple years in my pocket with zero maintenance and i looks great.

Micarta is about all I have on my fixed blades, and love the inlays on my sebenza's. Tough, lightweight, and good grip when wet or bloody.

On my micarta sebbies I use a q-tip sprayed with a gun degreaser. Dish soap also has a degreaser and works well.

I like to keep oil out/off of my micarta, so I never put mineral oil on them, and clean my hand oils from the micarta often.

micarta does pick material up, but this depends on how it's made, no? canvas will absorb dfferently than linen for example?

I could be wrong, but I wouldn't think so. The substrate (paper, linen, canvas, whatever) is filled with what is basically epoxy glue, usually under pressure.

Another trick- if a Micarta handle get oil stains whatever, the just spray on some Windex- then just leave it (don't rub it) for a few minutes and watch the stains disappear.

Take care, Neil
