Caring for wood scales--I'm confused

You really do not need to apply anything to a GEC knife with ebony or cocobolo or similar covers.

if you must, then a tiny drop of Tried & True Danish Oil rubbed in with a finger is a good choice and it is food safe and non-toxic.

Other than it's an obimination unto nature you mean?

That and it will scratch and wear and look funky and need to be redone.

As opposed to an oil finish which can be refreshed easily if ever needed.
I can see your point. I guess the wood handled knives that I will spray with some automotive clear coat or even if I use some wipe on polyurethane will become safe queens since I don't want to degrade the looks of the wood.

keeping the glue application very, very light and thin
That is exactly how any application that cures has to be applied. I applied 15 ultra thin coats of Tru-Oil to some wood and it came out looking sensational, it takes time though, you have to let it cure, then lightly rub it back with some 0000 steel wool, but the effort and time is well worth it. Have already started experimenting with the Gorilla Glue. Made my first mistake, too thick on my first application, but i will get it right. Thanks for posting about the glue, i would never had thought of it.

Just remember, any application will darken the wood to some extent. Good luck.
