Carothers Performance Knives Light Chopper

Great review. I've also had my light chopper develop some chips after trying to chop some red oak. However it isn't a deal breaker for me I still love the knife and those tiny chips can be worked out.

Nice write-up and great breakdowns!

I would love to hear your reference for sheathmaker that already has a pattern on these, design criteria and functional characterstics as a frequent field user. especially love pics when you get it! I'm relatively new to big knives, also having been an axe/hatchet man for years, and have similar caveats about machetes. optimizing an easy carry and draw option is a big motivation for the change. I'm having trouble getting comfortable carrying big knives conveniently/safely while still maintaining the ability to quickly draw and return when working. Chiral's extension is working great for my GSOs, but I'm very interested in a full leather option for these big guys so I'm not constantly scraping kydex....

Thanks again for the awesome info. Looking forward to more!

As it so happens, I bought a leather sheath for my LC from @grogimus. I love it. I will post some photos when I can get to an actual computer.

Here are some pictures of the sheath I commissioned from @grogimus. It isn't quite a drop sheath, so the handle still rides above the belt a little. That is higher than I usually carry a knife, but not nearly as high as the tek-lok sheath. I actually appreciate the slightly high carry in this case because it means that bottom of the blade doesn't fall too low. It's a nice simple design with good friction retention, and comfortable to wear.

I particularly like Grog's basket weave tooling, but Grog does a variety of patterns. Including a dragon pattern that is popular. I had a very good experience doing business with him. I plan to order more sheathes from him in the future, and I know he has patterns for most, if not all, of the CPK knife styles.

I think I would have cried after hitting that rock...

Well it sure didn't make me happy, but it is a working knife for me. It is unavoidable that it will get some dings on the job. Since then I have encountered some hidden nails and such. But the most important thing is that even with the occasional strike on hard objects, the edge damage is really minimal. I'm not about to start preferentially chopping through nails, but it didn't ruin the knife.
