This will be my last installment of our Carpenter Park hikes, haha. I know it's pretty much the same thing over and over. None the less, we had a good time, and the weather was perfect.

Log cut out. The guy in the red shirt, in the background, was hunting morels. Said he had found 6:

I love being in the woods:

Mandatory sling bag shot:

A few deer we saw. As you can see, the trail we were walking was very close to some houses on the golf course:

4.png

We decided to walk to Gurgen's Park, which is across the tracks from Carpenter. Walk down this old farmer's road to get to it:

Hunting shanty:

In the woods at Gurgens:

Haha, don't ask:

A little color on some of the new maple leaves:

An odd print:

Where we decided to stop and eat. We didn't see one person at Gurgen's Park, so thought it best to eat there. Obviously, next to a train trestle:

Starting to prep for a fire. Scraped some of this punky wood. Punky is an understatement, it was more like dust. Still wanted to see if it would take a spark:

Plenty of dry stuff around:

I won't BS ya, it didn't work. I used my Bic, haha:

Food prep. Pasta, bacon, broccoli, and fresh basil:

27.png

Fry the bacon:

Start the water for the pasta:

Cutting up the broccoli:

Have I ever told you how much I like the Emberlit?

Another bag shot:

Boiling:

Add the pasta:

Random food and accessory shot. Really like the spice kit:

After the pasta had a few minutes left, add the broccoli:

to be continued...

Drained, and removed the broccoli. Added the Parmesan:

Little salt and pepper:

Some garlic powder:

Okay, so I really like my spice kit:

Add the bacon back in:

Broccoli too:

Stripped the basil leaves, and added:

Give it a stir:

Looks good:

Was good:

The wife high falutin' it again:

Making a toothpick with my BK2. Always amazes me how well this knife works. That factory edge easily grabbed, and made curls:

Heading back, over the train trestle:

Some standing water, that's the back waters of the Sangamon River. You can see the turtles, and fish:

A little color:

Termite infestation:

Back to the stone pavillion:

Another fun day was had. We ended up walking about 3 miles. Thanks for looking.

Looks like an awesome day.

Looks like you did it in style.

Jeremy

It was fun man. I know some of my threads are similar, but what the hell. We got out in the woods, hiked, used the BK2, cooked, and smoked. That's a good day.

In my book your threads are fine. Similar or not. Keep doing what your doing man.

Amanda and I love looking at your posts.

Awesome trip report Dubz, and great pics as usual. Please NEVER think that your hiking posts are getting redundant, I for one never get tired of looking at your scenery shots. Plus the more shots of that Emberlit stove the better lol.

Great photos, Dubz. Although I always find myself wondering "who is that guy in the pictures?". I get so used to looking at your avatar that your actual picture seems.....a little unreal.
Love that you got out and had nice weather, too.

Thanks man. I feel the same way, can never have enough Emberlit shots, haha.

Yep, that old grey haired geezer is me, haha. It was a beautiful day. Just a few dollars in gas was all it cost us too. We already had the food at home, so we didn't have to stop and pick anything up.

Great write up, and beautiful pictures. Thank you for sharing!
Thanks man, appreciate it.

nice pics, warrior! cooking some real food with that emberlit - showing how it's done :) i love that stove.

looks like a great hike!! btw is that a red rock sling bag?
Thanks man, and yep, sure is.

Thanks brudda. Good to see you back over here. You're part of the reason I own an Emberlit now. I love that freakin' thing too, it's a blast to use.

Awesome pics W. Thanks for posting them.

I love the spice kit! Tell me about the little plastic bottles that fit in the altoids tin.... what kind are they? Where did you get them?

Great pictures Warrior! looks like a fun day out. I love making toothpicks with my BK2. It cuts so well for such a thick knife.

Great shots as always Dubz. Kay and I love your threads as well. As far as the firesteel goes, I rarely even carry one any more. Instead of carrying cotton balls or finding and prepping tinder, I just flick a Bic and enjoy the fire..:D
