Carrot Killer picture!

Well here's the first knife I've made from scratch! It's a kitchen knife for my wife Juliane. It's made from 1/16" O1 with cherry handles finished with Watco danish oil and and carnauba wax. So here's Juliane's Carrot Killer:

Very good design. I am sure that your wife (and yourself) will use it for many years to come. I have a couple of similar blade templates that I occasionally use.
If you grind the edge too thin, it makes a good paring knife! Now, ask me how I know...

Good knife, you should be proud.

Now I bet you will have to make a whole set for your wife, and just wait till her friends see it you better get started now.

Very nice knife, but now you are in real trouble, cuz your wife will want matching knives...for the kitchen, for the table, and even for herself.

So now you've made the carrot killer. Next you'll have to make the paring knife, the 6", 8" and 12" cook's knives, the cleaver, the carving knife....etc etc.

If you discover how to keep the stains out of the O1 as soon as it comes into contact with something acidic please let me know!

Thanks for all of the kind compliments! I realize that I have opened a can of worms here, but what a can of worms! I need to make one for my Mom, one for my Mother-in-law, etc. Plans are in the works for the paring knives, chef's knives, etc., not to mention the L6 hunter/utility I've started!
My question is, when do you get to make some to sell??? In the mean time (uhg)I think I'll keep my day job!
 
Yup, home heat treat using two propane torches and a fire brick enclosure,(appears to have worked properly), profiled with hacksaw and files and ground on my Delta 4"x36" (I acheived a "mostly flat grind"-HA).
Then laboriously hand finished to 600 grit.
It's already beginning to stain, that's O.K., knew it would, part of the charm of high carbon steels. (However once I learn more, future kitchen knves will be made of stainless!)-Guy Thomas
 
Silent, looks good, try slicing apple with the blade you should get a mild blueing affect with that. With a name like Carrot Killer it's got to be good.

Great job. You have talent. If the knife is simply wiped dry after use, there will be very little rust - if any. 0-1 and the other high carbon steels are vastly underrated, even for kitchen use. And those "green scrathy pads," from 3M really work wonders.
