for my a small strop (6" x 1") with compound on it, i made a cardstock sheath very similar to the leather sheath you have for your stone. it holds the strop well and keeps the mess off of my stuff.
it doesn't take up much space in my bag, breast pocket or anything. just slip it in there next to the small stone and i'm good to go.
more often though i use the candy tin sharpener shown below with a piece of paper loaded with compound, or with some .5 micron film strapped in.

depending on the size of the candy tin, you could probably slip your stone inside of it next to some high grit paper, so you would have all of your sharpening stuff in one little package.
