Carrying a knife while mountain biking

I always bike with a camel pack, usually have a Benchmade mini grip and a S&W J frame .357 in it.

Griptillian clipped to the shoulder strap of my camelback. It has a perfect little loop for it on the shoulder strap. It has never come loose before.

Yeah, the best place I have found for clipping a knife while biking is upside down on the backpack's shoulder strap. It doesn't get in the way, yet is easily grabbed in a pinch. I have a CRKT Minimalist that goes on the shoulder strap mounted upside down, accessing it is as simple as reaching from the grip to the shoulder strap and pulling down.

Here's a small backpack/biking blade that has a little "pop" behind it. :D

Grab a Cold Strel American Lawman. Super tough, smaller and it will not come un clipped with that aggressive G10. I've been carrying a knife on off-road rides for over two decades and never lost one yet.

I second this. I do quite a bit of mountain biking and this is my go to because of its light weight and tough-as-nails lock. Anything with H1 is good if you clip it to your shorts.

Think if I lived in a place with no common sense laws like this crime free place you call home. I would move to a State where laws allowed honest citizen to protect themselves. Sorry but if you are out biking, walking, or fill in the blank. If you encounter a criminal looking to find a victim, they the bad guy will not be in complience with local law, or regulations.

Like I told my bank manager when a new sign was installed on the front door. It read, No Hats, Sunglasses, or Guns. I laughted think some criminal going to rob the place would say to their crime partner. We can not go into this bank to rob the plce because we are carrying gun, and guns are not allowed.

Better hit the Wells Fargo down the street, because they do not have a sign forbidding guns in the bank.

I carry a mini-grip clipped to my pocket, has never come out. Sometimes I do put it in my pack though. Most bike tools that I've seen don't have blades.

I also do a lot of mountain biking, here in NC I edc an 8 to 9" fixed blade on my side on a daily basis. I always wear one of my fixed blades in a secure kydex sheath on my right side belt, knife laws are very lax here where I live (I love the south) seems like while in the trails on your bike there wouldn't be much of a concern with others seeing one on your side, seems they would be more understanding as you are in the woods and after all, "A knife is a tool."

When I bike, I carry an Endura with vg10 clipped iwb at 2:00. Light and secure. Good corrosion resistance.

I used to ride DH/Freeride pretty often and would always edc my Spyderco Military clipped in my front right pocket. Never had any issues of it falling out, even when I would crash from time to time. You'd be surprised how well pocket clips hold your knife. I wiped out on my longboard at about 20 mph with my 940 in my pocket and slid on the side I had it clipped. It did not come out but I had a pretty nice bruise on my hip from it lol.

I always clip my Delica 4 on the back right pocket of my jerseys. Haven't had an issue yet, but I think I'll swap it out for my Dragonfly 2 this season to see how I like it.

For biking and hiking I would probably try to find some type of drop-leg sheath for a fixed blade. Something that held a sheath nice and tight against the outside of the leg between the knee and the hip. Should stay pretty secure and be accessible very easily. Even a sheath that hangs from a sturdy belt and secures at the bottom of the sheath to the leg would work. That's just me though

Another vote for the pocket. Unless your saddle height is similar to a DUI commuter :p and you have a loose clip. Knife's not in a position to easily fall out.

I have never once had a knife come un clipped from my pocket ( and I've taken some bad spills) if your that worried, bend the clip so it has even more retention.

depending on where I am riding. Never lost one or had one come unclipped from my pocket

I carry a Spyderco Salt 1 clipped inside the waistband. The clip is pretty tight, no chance of losing it. Its very lightweight too.
And it doesn't rust, even if you sweat like a pig.

In your size range the Dragonfly Salt would be ideal.

I bought a DPx HEAT a little ago so as to be on the safe side in terms of the somewhat ambiguous knife laws and have taken this with me on my rides for over a month now. Initially, I carried it clipped to a thigh pocket and zippered that pocket as much as the clip would allow. This did not allow quick access especially considering the gloves I wear as I found out when I tried to get it to clear some branches. I then clipped it to my front right pocket–keeping an eye on it at first–where it has not moved nevermind fallen from even on rough terrain and falls.
