Carrying both a plain edge and fully serrated knife

The past couple of years I've carried a couple of knives on me. Usually a larger modern folder and a smaller knife; usually a slipjoint. One is more pc and the other a dedicated workhorse. I've come to the conclusion though, that I want to carry a fully serrated and plain edge with me all the time.

What Spyderco combo do you prefer to get this done? Today I've got the Pacific Salt and Pm2 but I'm thinking about other possibilities as well. :)

Do that all the time BMC!!
This is my favorite work combo.......both are workhorses!! That Pac Salt can cut through anything and the Native, s35vn, is one hell of a slicer!!
All bases covered!!

I carry my Autonomy quite a bit and even though it's serrated it works really well as a slicer.
I didn't think it would be but I was slicing tomatoes with it last week and it can do paper thin.
No real need to carry a secondary plain edge with this one.

Thanks for sharing everyone!

So, I am hoping I have a Native 5 (serrated) under the tree. I'm considering either carrying it and my PM2 or maybe even getting a plain edge Native 5 and carry with a Salt.

I've been carrying a pm2 and a se Tasmin the last month or so. Really love this combo but once in a while I'll trade the pm2 for a Stretch, Manix2 or a GB1

I agree, having both a PE and SE is very useful! Really been liking these two lately, but I rotate different plain edges fairly often. The Tasman is my only SE knife.......for now! :D

a full serrated can do about everything a plain edge can as they both cut stuff......but i prefer plain edges as i find them quicker and easier to keep sharp.

I carry both a lot as well. Usually the Pacific salt and another modern folder or fixed blade or both! I carry a fixed blade most of the time and sometimes the serrated box gets ticked by an Atlantic salt. If you want something smaller, I have a little experience with the dragonfly Salt though it is quite small for me. H1 is the way to go with serrations. It stays sharp longer because it is work hardening and it touches up easily.

Most often when I carry both PE and SE knives, the SE will be a Dragonfly Salt, which is small and unobtrusive enough to fit in most any accessory pocket, coin/watch pocket. The selection for PE is much more variable, and often is a new acquisition I'm trying out, e.g Manix Maxamet or PM2 Cru-wear recently.

Another old favorite for the SE is a Dragonfly SS, no clip, ATS-55 SE. Very thin and unnoticeable in watch pocket, even with RFP carry of another Spyderco (not too grande), yet sturdy and unflinching in the hand when asked to perform. H1 is just so carefree, though.

BTW, the proper knife for this pic is....wait...

C44 Dyad has been my daily carry for about eight years. It covers both bases quite nicely.

Well "BlueMetalChurch" I've been preaching the gospel of the advantages of having/using companion folders for quite some time now so I give you a brisk "High FIve on this thread for sure . Back around 08 to 09 I really started realizing how much more I could do by just having two edge types handy at all times. Then when I started making it a point to have a main plain edged EDC and I have quite a few in my arsenal it only made perfect sense to carry one of my Spyderedged Hawkbills along for the ride.

And there haven't been very many days go by to where I don't use both of them at least a half dozen times each. As much as I love my M390 Military, VG-10 JD Smith model and my hallowed C-60 PE Ayoob model as main EDC folders there was always something important missing. But when I started EDCing my G-10 Harpy too it just made everything seem complete.

Oh some might say that a double bladed folder like the C-44 Dyad would solve all my cutting needs>> and it is one of my all time favorite Spyders and I do carry one from time to time>> but having a backup, SE Hawkbill sure fills a lot of voids because it's a tool you can do a lot of jobs with. And for the most part combo-edges just don't fill the void for what I usually do during the course of a typical day. A Premium PE Spyderco folder backed up with a Spyderedged Hawkbill>> life just doesn't get much better

Been doing these lately. I feel all bases are covered.

What are y'all cutting that your PE won't handle? I despise SE. Serious question - not trolling.

I always pair a SAK and a PE Spydie. A year ago I experimented by adding a SE, since so many people on the forums seem to like a PE & SE combo. Well, that lasted maybe a month. I simply never really needed or used the SE for my mundane tasks, so I dropped it from my EDC. It now lives as a backup knife in my work bag.

Just a combo edge for me when I need a little serrated action
