Carrying more than one??

I have been thinking about carrying a second knife... right now i carry a bm 730CFHS and a leatherman...I been thinking of ditching the leatherman cause it's bulky and carrying somthing else IWB I have a navigator i could carry, but why should I need more than one knife? Currently I carry the BM in my front right pocket, clipped. I've kind of always wanted to cary a throwing knife IWB but those usally have no clip. maybe a balisong but how would that work?

If I carry a second knife what should it be and why? I want to carry it IWB in the back and it needs to be really invisable.

thanks for you help:D

Sometimes I carry a small tough fixed blade. The leatherman is hard to beat though, maybe a SAK can match it for versatility. I want to carry my Busse Assault Shaker as a second knife for prybar duties. Waiting on a sheath. :)
I stopped carrying my leatherman daily because of the bulk. Now I have a Swisstech folding plier with 4 screwdrivers on my keychain. It takes care of most jobs.

When I used to carry more than one knife, my FRN Delica was clipped IWB. It's thin and light enough to disappear even if you're wearing pants/shorts out of a light material.

Along with your Benchmade, how about a SOG Pocket PowerPlier (a small multi-tool), and maybe something like a (fixed-blade) Gerber Yari or Spyderco Temperance, carried IWB (if the law in your area allows it).

Why carry more than one? Versatility!

Today, I had my Buck/Strider Large Spearpoint, Benchmade AFCK, Rinaldi Enigma, and SOG Powerlock. There wasn't a job I couldn't tackle! :D

Knife11,

Have you ever needed to cut something and found that your main carry's blade was too long to have good control? That's why my second knife is always a Victorinox SAK with a small blade. You can get a SAK such as the Explorer model which has two flat and one phillips screw driver and be covered for screws and it also has scissors. It will be much lighter than your Leatherman. As a plus, when around sheeple you can use the large blade on the SAK instead of your BM without causing a stampede.

thanks for the replies...

My leatherman is a a blue juice (just so we all know what I'm calling bulky) and right now I carry it on my side in a phone/tool thing. I don't really have a sheeple problem but whatever i cary has to be small enough not to be noticed IWB so a fixed blade seems at little too big.

Here's another thing I was wondering does anybody make a sheath that fits over your jeans with like a clip or somthing so you can carry the knife just in side your pants horizontally rather than on your belt?

Thanks again;)

You sound like me. My primary EDC is a regular small Sebbie and I often pair it with either my V'nox silver Alox Bantam or my V'nox Pocket Pal. This makes for a great combination that can pretty much meet any task with which I may be confronted.

I carry more than one because no one blade does it all. I carry a Victorinox red alox Pioneer for general cutting, whittling and the extra tools; a Spydie Native for piercing, heavier cutting, one hand access, and last ditch SD; a Brusletto Balder for wood carving, whittling, firestarting and sentimental reasons; and a SAK Cybertool 41 as a lightweight multitool replacement (though this will soon be replaced by a Swisstool X); and finally when out of doors, I will carry a SOG Northwest Ranger or other fixed blade just because I can. Each choice is specialized in some way, and while I can get by nicely with just my SAK Pioneer in 99% of my life, it's nice to have several knives to choose from when something needs doing...it's a knife knut's duty to carry more than one!

My edc is a Kershaw random task,a S.A.K swiss champ, and an fully serrated sypyderco delica. Short of all out demolition,I have yet to find a problem that I cant cut my way out of. Although a machette can come in awful handy time to time:D . or maybe a FOURLEAFCLEAVER:D :D

When I am away from home, I always carry more than one knife. My normal EDC is a Victorinox SwissTool, a Vic Deluxe Tinker, a Spyderco fully serrated Endura or a partially serrated BM AFCK and a Vic Rambler on my keyring. There is also normally a small fixed blade in my daypack and a machete under the back seat of my truck. I find all the various blades and implements very handy for my cutting and quick repair tasks.

Since we are somewhat geographical neighbors, the legalities of knife carry suck in Illinois, especially chicago. Having said that, I still carry two knives... a stockman or similar slipjoint for most cutting and sheeple situations, and a larger blade for either a bigger cutting job or a situation of "need" if you catch my drift. You should check out Bob Dozier's knives simply because not only are they exceptional, but he offers an incredible horizontal sheath system for most of his blades. I do know that he offers an IWB sheath, but I have never seen one in person. You can find his stuff at most of the finer custom knife sites, and www.dozierknives.com
My bigger blade carry ranges from the CUDA Maxx 5.5 to one of several smallish fixed blades including one of three Doziers, the Primos Platypus, a Craig Camerer "EDC" blade, a Lamey Urban Bowie, and the Danbo modified puuko. You might want to reconsider the balisong in Chicago though... I fairly certain they aren't legal to carry.

I'm amost 100% certain Balisongs ARE legal to carry in Illinois...I'm not really sure what are the laws in Illinois that suck...maybe you mean a length thing.

but thanks for the dozier recomendation I'll check em out

In my L/F a Camillus 2 blade Trapper, in my R/F a Camillus 2 blade Congress, on my keychain (clipped to a beltloop via carabiner) a CUDA Arclite and an old SAK (sorta a cross between a Classic and a Rambler). Something for every occasion:D

I carry at least two folders when in an urban environment - sometimes three.
Almost always carry an Emerson La Griffe neck knife. Lately I havent been carrying any other fixed blades, but in cooler weather I usually also carry one of my own custom knives, and a Ryan/CRKT Plan B tucked into my boot. Plus an impact weapon, koppo or stinger, and sometimes a flashlight.
Just two would be a really light carry for me.

Lately I have been carrying a Kershaw Vapor II (the larger model, with the combo edge and really vampiric serrations) in my back pocket and a combo edge Benchmade 555 Mini-Griptilian in my front pocket.

I went out Sunday to Pahokee airport to go skydiving and while we were sitting around outside, this cool girl there named Kim saw that in a side mesh pocket of my knapsack I had put the Vapor II. (I had taken it out of my rear pocket in case it was an issue with a skydiving rig on.) She was looking at the pocket and said, "Is that a knife?" I said yeah, and she said, "Can I see it?" At this point I was cursing the fact that I know she has a big skydiver boyfriend. :p

I handed her the pretty chunky Vapor II and she proceeded to googoo about it, opening it and saying, "Oh, Kershaw! I have a Kershaw!" She also marveled at the serrations and said, "You could cut anything with this!" And a moment later, she ran into the hangar and emerged a minute later with a little knife (I forgot whether it's a Scallion or a Chive) -- the little assisted-opening combo-edge like you can get at Walmar (which is where I got the Vapor II)! It was so cool to meet a girl with her own knife!!! :D

I also showed her my Benchmade Rescue Hook, but I didn't demo the 555 in my other pocket, or the Delica hanging in a kydex sheath from my neck. I didn't want to freak people I had only recently met. ;)

Another vote for a SAK with small blade. My V-nox Settler is the one knife I ALWAYS have on me. It is usually backed up with a 3" one hander.

To paraphrase Clint Smith carrying a knife isn't supposed to be comfortable, it's supposed to be comforting. But seriously I have carried a Wave and an Endura AND a SAK Recruit without problems for years. Recently I've changed EDC to a BM Ascent and either the Wave or a SwissChamp on my belt. Carry what you want - within the law, of course - and what you're comforted by and have fun!
