Carrying more than one??

I used to carry three, and a screwdriver set. It seemed silly.

I bought a very strong knife, a Strider, and I leave the other stuff at home. It's lighter, and I now can carry a Arc AAA LED flashight.

I carry two knives from a personal defense perspective. I recently starting training in Sayoc Kali, which deals with multiple blades. The rationale being, if you are in self defense situation, you might accidentally drop your knife upon deployment, etc. The LAST thing you want to do is bend over to pick it up. Sayoc Kali teaches you to not even look at the knife you dropped but rather deploy your second knife.

Normally carry two. Usually it is the SAK One Hander and a plain edge blade like my Mini SOCOM. I like having both a serrated and a plain edge blade.

More than One?
Heavens yes, of course.

Lets see, today we find

1. Chinook rfp
2. Emerson LaGriffe on the neck
3. SAK hiker in lfp
4. Tarani Journeyman in rrp.

Thats just what I grabbed today, tomorrow could be different with some the same I'm sure.

Living in Arizona where there are virtually no knife laws and working as Security Supervisor which presents daily challenges for knives, I probably go a little overboard with what I carry, but in a normal week I will use 70% of the 6 to 7 blades I carry. If I were living in a totally urban environment my must have EDC would include a fixed blade neck knife (currently a Blackwood Lite Wave), a medium size folder (currently thanks to a pass-around, a Strider SNG), a multi-tool (currently and probably forever, a Swisstool X) and a sheeple friendly knife such as a William Henry. This would be my minimum, what I additionally carry under my present living/work environment also includes a Korth Model 1 Bali, a MT LCC D/A, a DDR Bullnose Max, a Blackwood CC knife, an Obenauf Model 1 (after I pass-on the Strider) and my current sheeple friendly blade...a DeVilliers Mini-Operator (the William Henry was just a suggestion).

Always carry more than one, like many before me have said, one knife does not do it all. The reason they make so many styles and grinds is because each shape and edge is more efficient being used for what material they are designed to cut.

Also it's nice to be able to always have a sharp edge available.

One last thing, being a Industrial Mechanic/Millwright I don't always have the same hand available or can reach a single knife, but by having multiple EDC's I can always grab a blade.

Three is my minimum now. I don't have to worry about the law but I prefer not to carry openly in the city. On me at all times are a small folder like Dragonfly in key ring and a full-size folder like Endura in rear pocket. In belt carry I have either a Spyderco Perrin or Moran. All see action, most of all the Endura.

In the bush I take the biggest I can comfortably swing - a panga, bolo or kukri, sometimes hatchet, depending on the job. If it's not in my hand it's in my bag or in the 4X4 Nissan so weight and carry options are not an issue.

SD kit for shady parts of town (and everywhere after dark) also includes a 21" expandable baton.

The Leatherman I count as a part of my body.

If I had to pick just one, it would be a medium sized, tough utility fixed blade. Won't name names as the search for The One Knife continues.
