Carrying Multiple Knives of Same Length

So I am just curious how many people tend to carry two knives of similar dimensions at the same time, and if so what the reasoning behind it would be.

Example: Carrying a 3.5" fixed blade and a 3.5" folder

Never carried two "main" knives but i would assume the main reason is to have one to be more of a heavy duty one while the other was a light duty. If I was going to carry both a fixed blade and a pocket knife at the same time with the same dimensions I would carry one to be heavy duty.

Oh sure . . . alllllatime :
Case Trapper (has two similar length blades.

Spay blade for food prep other blade for work

Two same length SAKs (top and bottom knives in this photo), carried in the belt pouch.

One long blade chisel ground left

One long blade chisel ground right

Both used for woodworking precision “knifed” layout lines. The second photo bellow is a layout knife I made from a file, shown here to demonstrate the edge shape. Allows the edge to run precisely along a straight surface to transfer that to a mating wood component.

OK . . . how about these . . . Cold Steel knives

One edge mirror polished for precision work and right next to it on the belt is the same edge toothy and saw like for all those things that edge is better at.

The PE Espada to cut stuff . The SE Talwar for emergency backup . I hate sharpening the Cold Steel serrations , so I try not to use it . Both have 5.5 " blades .

I just don't like having 2 blades of the same size on me, I prefer one larger blade and one smaller weather on the same knife or 2 separate ones. This is why I don't like trappers ( would love one with a clip main and pen or sheep's foot secondary ) , a good stockman may be an exception though with 2 blades being the same size.

I love having one blade for most tasks and a smaller one where it's size is more appropriate, weather due to the cutting task itself or for being used in a sheeple situation.
If I'm carrying a fixed blade on my belt ( it will be larger than my folder ) it's not really for a need but just for the love of the particular knife, so it and my primary folding blade get used interchangeably.

I think that for the most part when someone is carrying 2 knives of the same size it's probably just because they like both, or one of them is a new acquisition they're trying out.

I am carrying two knives that are close in blade length and cutting edge shape, and both are overkill for my daily requirements.
Spyderco Mantra 2 (M4)
Spyderco Mule (Maxamet)

Why do I carry them? Because I like the knives, and I can do so.

Aside from my primary folder in my right pocket and a Karambit in my left pocket, I also carry these two Dragonflys daily for utility (one serrated, one plain). I clip them in the corners of my back pockets an they practically disappear.

I'll often carry an izula or BK14 along with a 3-4 inch folder. I like to use the carbon steel fixed blades to beat on and pry with to save my folders. I don't often need the fixed blades, just enjoy carrying them. I also have a multi tool on my person also. Although I don't really carry them for the blades.

Funny, when I carry a fixed blade, it is often smaller than my main folder, sometimes the same size. Only rarely is it larger, primarily due to legal restrictions (and the size of my folder).

As it happens, I have two knives with similar length blades in my pockets today; but I didn't give that any consideration when I put them there.

Alright well it is good to know I won't be crazy for carrying my CPK EDC and the Slysz Bowie I now have coming in the mail (and holy hell am I excited for it!)

Does this really count ? A slim thin traditional blade is a completely different animal than a broader beefier modern blade.
Now the reason my belt fixed blades are usually bigger than my folders is because my folder is normally a traditional pocket knife. The largest fixed blade I edc is 11" oal, but the rest are all between 6-9" oal.

Love that beautiful dog leg jack BTW.

You can discount it if you want to. I don't generally carry two traditionals...I often carry two modern folders - usually because there is one in my jacket pocket, and one in my right front pants - and they're generally similar in size because that's the size I prefer to carry.
