As some Are aware, I recently bought off another member a pristine 2009 Ladder damascus and mammoth Bark small Sebbie.

I've fondled it a little, but hate to let it just sit in my case. Would I be crazy to carry in every week or so? I would probably not cut with it, but it is certain to get some wear marks.

I'm old, retired, and don't need to sell knives for money. So I'd like to enjoy carrying this knife. FYI, I carry 3 of my William Henry's (really expensive ones, my 4th I'll save and sell off), and I don't even use the leather clip cases. It gives me pleasure.

So, I know it would hurt the value in a possible trade/sale, which I don't foresee. Should I carry it, or keep it as a safe queen.

I want the opinion of other CRK owners. Thanks in advance. PS: photo is on my Grail thread. I'll take more when I can set up my lighting.

I would carry it, and use it. I wouldn't use it hard, but for light cutting duties. Wear marks just add character if you ask me.

NOT a CRK owner, but I am the owner of custom knives of substantial value.....a number with damasucs blades or bolsters. I carry all of them because I like to have the best, use the best and enjoy the best if I can afford it. In your case, I say use it, enjoy it and don't worry about resale!!

If you are concerned about the sale value, use it.
If you want to use, using it will give you more satisfaction than leaving it in a drawer.
And if not, in a few years it had just been using his grandchildren ...

Greetings.

I carry every knife I own. Even my expensive William Henrys. But I always use the leather clip cases. I love those and have had some made for my other knives. In fact, I am carrying my Mnandi today in a case Paul Young made for me. You bought it to enjoy. Enjoy it. Especially since you don't plan on selling it.

I have gotten over the fears that you are speaking of. I don't appreciate anything that doesn't get used. Now, I do not use and abuse those beautiful, but I use them lightly and carry them in their leather pouches.

Thanks for the responses. I'm surprised, since I thought people would urge me to keep it in a safe. But guess I'l start carrying it, in this case in the pouch.

Pouch is a good compromise for now. :) Frankly, since I don't consider the resale value much (I buy knives to use them), it's never been an issue. But at the same time, that has set an unofficial cap on how much I'm willing to pay for something I do intend to use. :/

carry and use it. I felt on edge about my pricey seb, but you'll soon get over it and use it with happy thoughts.

If you don't plan to sell or trade it then use it and enjoy it. Not sure what I'll do with my mammoth Damascus Seb, but if I decide to keep it I'll use it.

If it was meant to be kept in a safe, it wouldn't have a pocket clip and a sharp edge. Amiright?

You only get to go around once, if you're not concerned with the value and it brings you pleasure you should ABSOLUTELY carry it daily and let yourself get all the joy that you can from owning it. We may only get one go around but the knives can always be refurbed if you feel it necessary.

In my opinion if you're going to make it a weekly carry you may as well make it your go to knife, I don't care if you're field dressing some white tail deer or opening your mail with it- use it and enjoy it it :)

I recently bought one just to keep pristine, a Damascus Ol glory reverse silver contrast, its the only one I've ever bought that I have no intention of using- for now- that may change soon as its too beautiful to leave in the box.

Enjoy that beauty in great health Picard ;P I liked him as a Borg, you're username is one of my favorites.

Carrying it in a sheath is the answer.... One of the lies I tell myself to justify the volume of CRK I own is that when you have many, none get too dinged up. I carry all mine. One trick I learned recently is CRK will re blast the clips. Have that done once in a while and your knives seem new.

My philosophy on knives is this.... if I'm not going to use it, I sell it. CRK builds knives for use, use it and use it well!

Loc--from one CRK owner to the next: use it and enjoy sir! You own a Porsche, right? I am certain a set of tires for that machine costs more than your grail Seb and yet you drive on them every day! You have earned it my friend.

I think you answered your own question:

"I'm old, retired, and don't need to sell knives for money. So I'd like to enjoy carrying this knife. FYI, I carry 3 of my William Henry's (really expensive ones, my 4th I'll save and sell off), and I don't even use the leather clip cases. It gives me pleasure."

My only concern is the damascus which is quite unique and perfect. Nothing like what is being offered nowadays. I would not want to blemish, scratch or fade it.

Who am I kidding ... I would never carry that beauty. I have a few that I bought for using, but my collectibles are just that. Yours definitely would fall in that category ... but each one of us is different. If it brings you joy ... I mean, how many things really do that?

I personally can't let a knife stay in my possession that I am afraid to carry. If its not pulling its weight it has to go and make way for a user. I know not everyone has that philosophy and I respect that. There are a lot of true collectors out there who have amazing collections that are great to look at but not to touch. If I were a rich man I would probably have many many knives that were just for display. I am a far cry from rich so all of my knives have to earn their keep and can't just lounge around living the good life. They have to get off their lazy asses and go to work!!!

I will say without a doubt use it. Carry it. Cut with it. If I had the financial means I would have gotten it and would be carrying it now. As you said you don't plan on selling and it gives you please. Carry it, enjoy it, and tell us how much you like it to make us jealous.

It's a knife.

If you don't care about the resale value for collection reasons........then do with it what brings you the most pleasure.

If that is carrying it, then carry it. No reason to put cash down for something that you don't get enjoyment out of.

All I am trying to say here is this: It is your knife. If carrying it and using it is what brings you the most enjoyment, and you have no other goals for the property (i.e. reselling later for profit), then I would make I got my $$$ out of it. If looking at it in a display case because of its rarity is your thing, that is getting your $$$ out of it.
