Just wondering if anyone had any experience with the knives that have this feature. I have a couple of CRKT M16's and I have found the flipper to be a real great little feature. The knives deploy with rapid speed. After playing with one awhile and handling my other knives I find myself reaching for the flipper, to no avail.

I'm assuming that CRKT has a patent on this but not sure. Any thoughts?

I have a Jim Hammond Cruiser with the Flipper and it is a good knife overall.
The Flipper is a lot better than using the thumbstud.

I agree. It really spoils you after you handle it some. I would love to see some higher end knives with this type of deployment.

Note: This is not to discount the quality of CRKT.

Mate it is a feature I will always look for in a moderate priced folder.
I have 1/2 a dozen folders mainly CRKT and Kershaw and they do what I want from them.
Opening envelopes, cutting boxes and straps etc.
Occasionally cutting my Apples or getting a blemish of my Peach.
The usual stuff that most here have to deal with every day.
:D :D :D

There are many higher end knives with this deployment. Darrel Ralph, Greg Lightfoot and Kit Carson are three that I can think of now.

The Buck Sirius is a very nice AO-flipper which opens with real authority. The Buck version of a liner lock is built like a tank, too. After months of playing with the flipper, the lock bar still hasn't wandered over the tang one bit. Full steel liners and machined aluminum scales for a nice feel.

It's pretty much the only knife that can compete with my BM710 for pocket time.

I have two from CRKT and a Kershaw with the feature. I got used to pushing it for opening and also found them "not there" on the EDC of the day. Puts a hesitation in using a non-feature knife.

I prefer the "Colt Commander" style over the "Shark Fin" for the looks, but they all seem to work the same. It does require a less secure grip to push the flipper with the forefinger hard enough to open. Haven't dropped one yet, tho.

My current EDC doesn't have it - an oval hole opener - and I've find I don't see it as a necessity. This knife has good ergonomics for my hand so it opens securely and easily with the oval. It meets all my needs and critieria without a flipper, but on the others it was helpful because the standard openers didn't work as easily as the flipper.
