Here is a single bevel wood carvers axe that I recently forged.
The steel is 1018 with a cutting edge of 1080 HC steel.
Ash handle 14" long overall.

Did a great job when I tried it out trimming billets for tomahawk hafts.

Does making it a carving axe the upward sweep? Reason I am asking is I have a swedish military axe and it has the same upward sweep. Does this make the axe more useful in all aspects? I thought maybe it could be use in defence since you could thrust the axe forward, say to the midsection and you would have a point going forward with the thrust.

The upward sweep makes a cleaner cut because it will slice through the wood when chopping, also with the single bevel it is easier to trim close to the "line".

Yes, it could be used as a weapon as it would penetrate and slice at the same time but since the authorities frown on such actions, I would recommend it be used only for woodworking. :D

Thanks everyone for the nice words and for taking a look.
