Case 2026 Vault Pattern

I wish they would bring back patterns from decades back, rather than one which has only been in the vault for a few years. I know it's a different deal. "In the vault" means they are not currently producing it, but have the tooling to produce it if they want to. There's a lot of patterns that Case used to make and for which they likely don't have tooling for anymore. But I'd like to see them build the tooling to make them again.

The axe handle does look interesting. But at 4 1/4" closed, it's too large for me to conveniently pocket.
I am the same way, I would love to see some swell end jack, scout junior, or some of the other classics. However, it looks like the patterns available in the vault are limited.
I recently found on the Case website that they listed the ones in the vault, out of all of them I think the Eisenhower would be cool. Of the ones they listed, many have already been released.
Apparently the other classic patterns either the tooling was damaged or destroyed. I sure do wish they would retool for some of those, I think some of their more classic patterns would sell like hotcakes.
The ones they listed in the vault;
  • TB’028 Teardrop
  • ‘052 Medium Congress
  • ’85 Doctors Knife
  • ‘165 Pocket Hunter
  • ’49 Copperhead
  • ’25 ½ Small Swell Center
  • ’68 Small Congress
  • ‘005 Razor
  • ’82 Baby Doc
  • ‘130 Gunstock
  • ’08 Half Whittler
  • ‘265L Mid-Folding Hunter
  • ‘063 Eisenhower
  • ‘1 ½ Cheetah® Cub
  • ’15 Small Gunstock
  • ‘156 Tuxedo
  • ‘83WH Splitback Whittler

A list of knives which appear to me to be neither part of the current catalog nor on the list of knives which are "in the vault". Not my area of expertise, so feel free to correct me.
Clasp knife?
Gunboat Canoe?
Coke Bottle?
Elephant Toe?
Moose?
Swell Center Moose?
Full Size Swell Center Jack?
Sleeve Board?
Back Pocket was recent, but it's not in current production and is apparently not in the vault.
Loom Fixer?
Hawk Bill?
Cigar Jack
Swell End Jack
Cattleman's Stockman (equal end stockman, not serpentine)
Humpback stockman. (I have one, but I think it was a blade show special, as it has ebony covers.)

Not sure what this means, but saw this Case post today. The elephant toe and hobo are a couple I would love to see rereleased. I think the cheetah cub is one of the better vault pattern releases in years. The axe handle also looks nice, with some quality jigging on some of the handles.

I just preordered a CS dark red peach seed jigged cheetah cub.

That drawn swedge looks great, and the blade looks like one that they will probably have no problem executing well.
I'm hopeful that they can get these done just as well as they seem to be nailing the Barlow.
I'm not sure how I'll feel about the swing guard, but time will tell when it's released.

I was hoping the 08 half whittler would be the 2026 vault release 😁
I know they were just barely put into the vault, but it's my favorite Case pattern damn it and a vault release would mean more CS offerings.

It'll probably be at least 10 years till it comes back which sucks, but I can live with it if they bring back other patterns I'd like.
The 063 Eisenhower would probably be a good one.

When was the last time they released a 92 stockman? It's hard to believe a company like Case wouldn't have a 4" square bolster stockman in their lineup all day, every day.
They still make the 75 stockman, and I'd think the 92 would be at least 2-3 times more popular. Most people don't want a jumbo pocket knife.

I'll skip both of them. I don't like pointy, sharp corners on knife handles. Square edges, etc.... I prefer rounded edges that don't dig into my hand or catch on my pockets.
A flare on the butt end of a knife handle would be ok with me, but it would have to be rounded at the corners, or no-go.

Swing-guards are just a flat "no". They have always looked cheesy to me, like the old cheap switchblades we used to buy as kids....

I'm glad that some folks like 'em... 😁

Axe handle with a CS blade with a nice patina!! 🤗🍻🤗
Yeah Baby!!! 😊🫶😊
And a POINTY blade!! 🤔😂😂
John 😁
I really like some of these handles, but not the one with the CS blade. I might need to go back through the "2024 BladeForum Knife" thread to figure out how to dye handles. I've done if a couple times with mixed results, but would love to try again.

I know!! one of may all timme faves. Last made in 1990 as a stockman...the two blade jack lasted til about 2001.

I got very lucky with the Exchange forum here a decade or so ago and scored both a 6292 Texas Jack and a 6392 Stockman pattern. Great knives in a perfect intermediate size.

As to the original topic - not interested in the Cheetah myself, but that Axe Handle is sweet. I'm going to get one of those, once I decide which handle material I like better. Now that I am no longer having to worry about work restrictions (working from home full-time until I retire), I find I like bigger knives.

I recently fulfilled a long-time wish of mine to get a full-sized Case Sod Buster, and MAN do I love that knife. So the Axe Handle looks like a winner.

Has anybody here gotten a Cheetah cub yet ?

I see people elsewhere on the Internet have bought them from local knife shops...etc, yet SHC has yet to start shipping the pre-orders.

From what I can see on the bigger Case reseller web sites, they are all listed as backordered or out of stock. So likely nobody has them in hand to comment on them.

I personally don't care for the little swing guard thing on the Cheetah Cub. In that size range, for a single-blade lockback from Case, I'd choose a Mini-Copperlock. The bolster shape of the Copperlocks gives you pretty much the same protection against your hand slipping forward as the swing guard.

The new Axe Handle pattern, which is the one I am more interested in, is also showing backorder status everywhere I look. I am debating between the Gator Jigged Old Red Bone or Bonestag handles for that pattern, leaning toward Bonestag since they leave the slabs a bit fatter on those, which I like with a single-blade knife.

I just didn't like the mini copperlock I had , I'm not sure how I'll feel about the swing guard but I do find the cheetah cub to be a more attractive knife overall.
Even if I chose to quite easily remove the swing guard, I'd still prefer it over the copperlock.
Something I was just thinking about that should play in it's favor as that there are only 2 other readily available American made lockbacks in carbon steel on the market today.
The mini copperlock and the B&S farm hand.
I'm not sure which GEC models we'd be talking about, or how often they make a batch of them.

There just aren't a lot of lockbacks being made in carbon steel, and in the US there really never have been.

The vault pattern have all been novelty knives since I've been paying attention. Small too

Mini congress with microscopic blades

Razor pattern # is awesome but with a gimmick blade

Baby doc is collector fodder

This cheetah cub is another small version and is pandering to collectors

That's great and all I guess they are doing well with it. Just not my thing.

The Barlow was a vault pattern, thankfully though they were smart enough to keep them around.

I don't personally think they're just pandering to collectors though, because a lot of people use smaller knives and there are a lot less smaller patterns being made in the US today.
This time with the cheetah cub it's even less so , because it's not that small of a knife at 3-1/2" closed.
The Barlow is 3-3/8" closed, and the 032 pattern stockman/Texas Jack are 3-5/8" closed.
No they're not 4"+ knives you can get a full bearpaw grip on, but still plenty adequate for a working knife.

I do agree though that it would be a good idea for them to change things up a bit and bring back one of their larger patterns from the vault.
