CASE 6208 half whittler in CV

I'd like to know when they're available too (the Half Whittler that is) CASE has put the bar up on International sales so this makes it tricky for me but I NEED one

Read this thread & revisiting it. Just noticed that the Case Half-Whittler is around my favorite closed length for a traditional folder. Love my Jack Knife in black delrin, but Case has been ignoring that pattern for years. Might need to give the Half-Whittler a try.

I don’t want any hate for this and maybe I’m too new and just not looking at the right sites to find them...but I think the current and recent past CV blade options just suck compared to the SS. The backpocket (don’t remember seeing anything for handle material but the delrin), Barlow (only delrin and no single blade spear), half Whittler (clip and pen no wharncliffe or coping WTH)..am I wrong?

Who can say? You give don't give exact reasons for your dislike of cv, too vague.

Sorry, I didn’t make the point I wanted to make. I like CV, just wish Case made it more of an option with more blade choices and handle materials. On a lot of knife issues it seems limited to one offering often only in delrin. Don’t get me wrong, I like yellow delrin but options would be nice.

Now, you have a "natural bone" option.... :D
Case is also making a hunter two blade style knife that is geared toward "survival" with a flat ground spine for use with a firesteel, and CV steel blades. I saw it in the new SMKW catalog.

I’ll definitely get the natural bone half Whittler soon as I find it in stock. I wish case had gone with a wharncliffe over the pen blade. I’ve been chasing a backpocket as well but just unwilling to pay the prices on the ones I’ve found so far.

Funny thing when you think of it - Buck and Case make the vast majority of their knives out of stainless and everyone wants more choices in CV or 5160. On the other hand GEC makes most of their knives out of basic 1095 (CV) but everyone searches for their rare stainless knives! If they both switched around we would too in what we want. OH

Yea, what fun is that?

I just got an email telling me my Case smooth natural bone half whittler in CV has shipped! I haven't checked to see if other stores show them to be in stock yet, but.... mine is on the way!
Thanks for the heads up.
I was getting ready to go ahead and preorder mine then I see this and my preorder turned into an order:D

Kiro's 6208 in post 20 is my ideal of a half-whittler. I have one, deep red bone handles, XX made 1940-64, that
my Dad used through WW2. He was on a long hike through the jungles of Hawaii in training and noticed it was
gone from his pocket. So, he thought "I'll go back 100 yards, and if I don't see it, it's gone." Went back less than
100 yards, and there it was! He retired it after WW2, which is why I have it now. I wanted one like it for many
years, and found a country preacher selling out his collection of Case XX, XX USA, etc. knives, all new, and all seemingly
at $35 each. I bought several (many of which became gifts), and among them was a new XX version of my Dad's
WW2 knife.

I began using it, and after about a year of constant use, the blades had developed a velvety black patina. It is perfect
for so many chores, and just vanishes in the pocket until you need it. It's astonishing how useful it is! I carried it every
day for about 10 years and then got a bit worried I'd lose it, so I retired it. Flash forward maybe 20 years, and I was here
reading about the mods people are doing to traditionals... and I got the bug to try my hand at re-handling a Case. Went
looking for a "donor" knife, and up popped a nicely-used, but clean 6208 with yellow Delrin handles in CV, for $20!

Perfect!! I bought it with no expectation of doing anything other than possibly mangling it in my first re-handling project...
and made the mistake of dropping it in my pocket "for a few days." Well, that was maybe a year and a half ago, and it's still
doing EDC duty! Just like its' predecessors, it takes a really nice edge with just a few strokes on a stone, and holds it very well.
Now, reading about this new release makes me think I should get one --- except for the 2 springs on the modern version.
Anyone who hasn't used one of these before is missing a real treat. Get one!
:)

I can understand that.
I appreciate the two springs as it means the blades aren't crinked, but one spring would be nice as well.

Thanks for the thought -- I didn't consider that the 2 springs had an actual utility value -- I just saw them
as perhaps a cost-cutting "economy of scale production" thing. Knowing that there really is a benefit to
them makes them seem much less egregious!

The beauty of the single spring, of course, is in the incredibly slim knife that results.
Whichever one gets, I predict that the blades themselves will be a delight to use, and the
knife a joy to carry.
Enjoy!

My Mini Copperlock is waiting at home for me. I'll get some pics up later today. :D
