Case, and their "Tru-Sharp" steels?

All of the Case knives that I have purchased have had a fairly significant burr on the edge that needed to come off. Once I did that minor chore they all were acceptably sharp. As far as the stainless versus carbon steel issue, I would love to get a CV knife, but I have not found one that I like the handle on. So right now I am using the stainless and it is working just fine. Steven

My Case experience was not a good one for me. 4 knives, all new, made from 02-06. Fit and finish problems, dull edges on some (not all blades- can't shave hair), handle material problems. Won another on this forum- came dull on both blades with better fit and finish. Their customer service did not return my emails, but others have had great success with CS. Overall seems to be a very hit and miss company. I am done buying new ones, but may still purchase older ones if the opportunity arises.

Just curious, when did you get that slab side hunter? I have a handful of Case knives made over the past 3-4 years and they've all been quite sharp out of the box.

I tell you, the lousy luck I had with dull blades and poor fit/finish on Case knives back in the "dot era" (mid 1980s) put me off the brand for a long long time. But I'm a big fan of their recent offerings. My EDC is a peanut in tru sharp and it's a great little knife. Came very sharp and does everything I need done on a day-to-day basis.

I bought this Stag Slab Side Hunter, only because it was stag. It was after they stopped using the stag from India. I suppose it was made back in the early 90's or maybe even before as it was setting in a store display.
Case very well may sharpen knives sharper now. But this one is very dull and it's not the first one I've seen come that way. I'm not gonna sharpen it because it's stag and I'm not using it anyway, because it has a little collector value.
