Hey gang, I would love to hear opinions on the Case/Tony Bose back pocket and the Queen/Dan Burke large barlow.
I don't even know why I'm interested in a larger slip joint but these two seem to be calling me as well as the Queen non-locking mountain man in D2 with that beautiful stag looking bone.

I'm not even sure how I'd end up carrying a larger knife but they both have unique features. I'm intrigued by the lanyard hole on the Case but lean towards the D2 of the Queens. If the Case was CV I probably wouldn't think twice.
I'd also love to know how the fit and finish is on some of these as I've had some pretty bad luck with both companies.
Anyone own all three. :D Or just comment on the one you have.

Half stops, weight/size, feel in hand, etc.?

Never fear, I'm sure Case will be making these in CV some day soon.:cool:

The Daddy Barlow is a terrific knife. Really well shaped blade, beautiful scales and the traditional neutral grip very comfortable

I put a convex edge on the D2 and just adore the thing. I'd buy another of these before buying the Case :)

I too got taken by the large slipjoint bug, and find it the most useful option. I think this Queen even outpaces the sublime Northfields #23 stag slipjoint - which is saying much

I have the Case ebony Back Pocket and love it. The ebony scales are perfect as is the blade centering. It has a firm open and close, I'd say about a 6-7. It's much sharper than I expected too. For $80 I couldn't be happier.

I'm a big fan of the S&M File & Wire Daddy Barlow 2-blade. The secondary small clip is great for most tasks, but the big spear is there for heavy work,
and both in excellent ATS-34 stainless in case you get "sweaty booty." :D

For reference, I wear an extra-large glove.

I have two of the case backpocket knives and couldn't be more pleased, well made very sharp excellent handles, very comfortable to carry.I like queen knives ok I just never got a sharp one and got tired of trying to get the edge thinned down.

I have one of the ebony backpockets, and plan on picking up the Queen Burke collaboration. I have no complaints about the Backpocket after using it. Great knife. The SS steel holds an edge better than I thought it would. Takes a great edge too, although I only honed it.

This may have been answered elsewhere but can anyone tell me if the Case backpocket has half stops? I went ahead and ordered the Queen/Burke large barlow but it hasn't arrived yet.
I'm trying to hold out for a CV version of the case backpocket. Even though the stainless would serve me just fine, I like the character that the CV knives develop.

The Case BP definitely has half-stops and the ones I have seen are nicely tuned and spring is flush in all positions.

Seals mentioned that his blade is sitting so low in the closed position that the nick isn't as easy to access as it should be. I believe Case is aware of the issue and this won't be as much of an issue in subsequent builds.

I had the same issue in a humpback stockman. Case will take care of it if you get a stinker.

I'd most certainly choose the Queen Mountain Man over the Case Back Pocket. Similar shape & size, but Queen's D2 is (in my opinion) a way superior working steel to the Tru-Sharp. No contest.
That Daddy Barlow is really nice-looking, and if you're not set on a lanyard hole or lock, that'd be my pick.

I agree on your D2 opinion. Knowing me I'll probably end up with 3 or 4 big slip joints and then only keep my favorite one. I'm going to try out the Queen large barlow first and see what I think.
Thanks for the other info also guys. They all sound like nice knives.

If yer truly going to carry it in your back pocket, you might want the heavier frame of the Daddy Barlow over the light weight Case.

It's one thing to name a knife "Back Pocket" yet quite another to actually carry said knife in a back pocket.

We could compare a number of other big, multi-blade knives to the Case BackPocket but I'm not sure why we would do that since it's not a good comparison.

Certainly not everyone will like to carry a knife in their back pocket. The Bose BP frame is based on the Rem. 1123 trapper but built thin as a single blade to make it easy to carry in your back pocket vertically next to your wallet. I know that Tony has carried big knives in his back pocket this way for many, many years so that's where the name comes from.

I can't imagine anyone wanting to carry a knife horizontally in their back pocket, unless they are a masochist, not that there's anything wrong with that...viva la difference baby. :D

I don't really understand your comments but we'll just chalk it up to personnel preference. My personal preference to NOT have a big, heavy and thick knife riding next to my wallet. The T. Bose back pocket pattern rides nicely right next to my wallet and I barely know it's there....almost like it was designed specifically for that purpose. I suspect my co-workers think I'm a bit strange for compulsively tapping my right butt cheek to make sure it's still there. :D

The only reason I used the large Barlow as a comparison with the Case BP was because the OP asked for a comparison between the two. It stands to reason that any heavy framed knife will/should hold up better than a light framed knife in many situations. My .02¢

I gotta agree with ya about carrying a knife horizontally in a back pocket. Personally, I don't see carrying a knife in a back pocket in any fashion but that's just me.
