Case Backpocket...Antique Smooth Bone

If you like a 4" closed length, single clip blade "Trapper" then it's a dandy.
I have handled several but at 4" they are a little big for the front pocket (hence the name), and at 250lbs I don't like to sit on anything hard, for both our sakes.

Actually it's 4 5/8" long closed -- a relatively large knife, though designed to be rather thin - certainly way larger than anything I would be willing to carry in a front pocket, and I never carry a knife in a back pocket (or anything else hard - for the same reasons as Stu - something would have to give, and it probably wouldn't be me). The smooth antique bone is beautiful though -- and they're great knives if their size and design suits you, but you'll need to think carefully about whether or not that's true.

Here's a picture of one with an end-cap and in smooth yellow delrin Dan to kinda give you an idea of how it'd look.

Like the others have said it's darn big and not a good carry knife unless in a sheath -- my .02¢ . I sure as heck wouldn't sit on one. Cool knife but for me not practical even though I did buy the one pictured.

looks like a good choice. i currently carry a buck 110 in the back pocket of my jeans without a problem. if case made a backpocket with a lockback i would carry it over the 110.

Based on the above comments, I was just wondering about where do you draw the line for comfortable front pocket carry: overall length; weight? Thanks

Dan.

I would check the sheath forum and contact a maker whose work you like. There are a lot of choices for that knife.

In blue jeans, it might even be a comfortable carry. My weekdays are spent in slacks 10 to 12 hours a day until I get home and I prefer a smaller 3 to 3.5" pocket knife then, but in jeans I can carry a 4 to 4.25 pattern. Unlike a smaller pattern, I do know it is there. ;)

4-1/4" 5-6oz is the biggest i would go for front pocket. even tho it tends to flop around when you walk. it's not really noticeable until you wack it off something, then you hear a nice *thunk*. but really it depends on what you like to use. you could probably get away with the backpocket in the front since it's pretty light if you don't carry alot of stuff in your pockets. a cargo pocket would be even better.

I recently bought a 4 5/8" Case Sod Buster and tried carrying in my front jeans pocket as an EDC. Even though it fit nicely in the pocket it was clumsy to say the least. Up until then I drew the line at 4 1/4" in a front jeans pocket and still do. I currently carry a 4" jack knife as my EDC.

Bastid had a good idea to check the sheath forum for a sheath. Lots of good makers located there.

I've been carrying this exact knife quite frequently lately, usually in my front pocket.

While it is pretty large, I find that the thinness of the knife coupled with the smooth bone makes it pretty unobtrusive.

I find the size very handy for day to day tasks and it really feels good in my hand.

In my jeans, I can carry a backpocket knife in my back pocket. :p It sits right next to my wallet, and stays upright, mostly. I had the Kerry Hampton Backpocket Passaround knife, and with a lanyard attached, and hanging out of the pocket, it tends to stay upright and out of the way, as well.

Of course the ideal way to carry for me is in a horizontal sheath. Benchmade's Balisong sheaths are ideal, especially for larger knives like this Case. I also carried my Buck 110 in it.

I have to disagree, love the big knives and the back pocket is a really good carry folder, as I carry mine all the time. I do not carry back pocket mainly because with no clip, it might slip out and too nice a knife to lose!

Doh! I meant to put >4", I wasn't sure exactly but I know its a big one.

I have a few slipjoint backpocket-style knives - though not the Case. The Queen Mountain Man, a few GEC 23s, a few large sodbusters.

I think the theory is that you are so busy you don't get a chance to sit down :D:D

I have one in Antique Bone and haven't carried it much. But it's pretty thin so back pocket carrying isn't too bad for me. The Antique Bone is very attractive too.

Having a sheath made for the inside pocket of a suit/spotcoat. Will also get one for my belt i think. Very nice knife. Case does such a nice job for the money.

I am a big guy, and carry the backpocket sometimes, well, in my backpocket. I'm used to carrying big one handed openers, so the backpocket feels natural to me when I carry it.

Just in case you haven't heard....

I carried a leek (boo! Nontraditional) clipped to back pocket for a while and bent the clip out. I'm not that heavy (180) but I worry a bit about back pocket carry of a longer knife setting up some weird leverage. I guess if wallet helps keepmit to the outer edge so you aren't really sitting on it that works.

Matt1987, a copper lock might be right down your alley, slim long blade, over 4 and a lock.
