Case Bone Stag

My first Bonestag case. I think 2002 vintage. I really like the feel and slightly slimmer profille than many genuine stag examples. Gifted to me by DIL for my birthday.

I have only one knife in Case 6.5 Bonestag. I don't care for how very thick it is. I understand the reason for it; but I don't care for the result. Makes the knife thicker than it needs to be for what it is.

I bought this Teardrop in Bone Stag because it was the only version with wharncliffe blade in CV steel. (the federal shield was icing on the cake)

I have mixed feelings about the bone stag. Sometimes it looks ugly to me. Other times I kind of like it, but that may be because I like the knife itself so much.
Looking at all the pictures in this thread, some of the knives look really good. I prefer the ones with longer, smoother grooves to the ones with a lot of chattered cuts. There's almost as much variation as with genuine stag.

Unusual I think? Rachel! I'm not an expert on Case shields etc... But, it's a nice looking knife with patina! I totally agree though with your idea about bone stag.

Well . . . guess I have to be the dissent. Sorry. :(

I do not like bone stag. Having said that, the examples in post 18 is some of the best I have seen. But still . . .

I am fairy picky on stag and real picky on bone that I like.

In fact, I would say that ten years ago I did not like bone or stag at all, either. None of it. Good quality wood, micarta, pearl, mammoth I have always liked. But my tastes changed and I now do like **some* stag and **some** bone.

So who knows - maybe in another ten years I will like bone stag, too! LOL!. But right now . . . no.

Case Saddlehorn I picked up in a pawnshop a number of years ago. I love the blade shapes on this knife, but have never taken to it as an EDC due to the large swell/weight of the bottom bolster. I do think the bone-stag has a nice look and that Case got it right. OH

Does anyone have a picture of what the 6.5 Bonestage looks like aged after it has been carried awhile? The only "real" stag knife I own is an older case trapper and I bought it sight unseen and got lucky. The stag is perfectly matched and the fit and finish is a 10 and it is flawless perfectly centered and in a box with paperwork............so I have never carried it. I was thinking of picking up another stag trapper for a user, but this Bonestag might be the answer at nearly half the price. Especially if it aged half as nicely as real stag.

I have to agree with every thing you say about the Small Case Saddlehorn . They have great blades and I think a comfortable grip . I have 2 that I only carry rarely because I want to keep them like new . Your Bone Stag is probably as nice as any that I have ever seen .

Thanks Steve and Harry. I got real lucky on this knife - when you buy used knives at pawnshops you get what you get! The bone-stag is what I'd call middling thick - not too thin or too thick. OH
