Ever since I saw the original custom Lanny's Clip thread, I've been in love with the design. I had hoped we would be able to have one made as the Bladeforums Traditional Knife for 2012, but that didn't happen. I dreamed that Case would release a version for us one day, and it finally is here!

I put my name on a waiting list, and even though I haven't heard a thing about the cost, (I have No Idea:eek:) I'm getting pretty excited.:D

Anyone else as excited as I am? I worry that when the price is announced, I'll have to sell some of my collection to afford it. Any speculation on price range? I'd be okay with less than $200, but much more than that, and I'll have to start worrying more.;)

I am,

Been a long time since I have gotten a collab for less than 200 though :).

300-350, I would think. I am looking forward to this one too.

As far as selling off part of your collection, start saving now. By the time it is released, you should have a good chunk of change, and you can sell off a few knives to cover the rest.

All the other single blade Case/Bose collaborations (Arkansas Hunter, Yukon Jack, Pruner, Cotton Sampler) sold/sell for well over $200, so I think you're out of luck for the Lanny's Clip being under $200. More likely it's closer to $300, if not more.

Lanny's Clip for this year's collaboration? Count me in. Strange, I remember thinking a couple of years back that the LC would be a great collab knife because it is a Bose original pattern.

Put my name on a list a few weeks ago for an Ebony. Not much hope that will be less than $200.:D
But I'm pretty confident it will be worth the price.

I guess I'm still learning about what exactly is a "Collaboration" and what is a "Tony Bose Design." The Case Saddlehorn, Back Pocket and Swayback jack/gents all have the Bose name attached, so that's where I got thrown. I did notice the Coffin Jack coming in at over $300 in some places, so suspected I might have a steeper price range.

I'm relatively new to the whole idea. Does this mean that I'm looking at a Custom Quality knife now? Is it that much of a step up from the "normal" Case production knives, like the ones I mentioned above?

I guess I'm still confused on what, exactly, these yearly collaborations are. I understand the limited numbers, but where do the Swayback, Back Pocket, Sow-belly and Saddlehorn fit in? Are they just knives that were so well received in the original limited configuration/quality that they fit them into the regular production line? Does Tony actually grind the edges on the limited ones? What am I really paying for?

If anyone wants to take the time to 'splain it to me, I'd appreciate it.:)

Thanks,

Tony has designed several patterns for case (sowbelly, swayback, I suspect the desk knife, saddlehorn come to mind). The knives are in regular production with standard materials. Brass liners NS bolsters CV or Case stainless steel although they are using higher end stainless on the desk knives.

The "collaborations" are an annual knife. The series started in 1999. The pattern which is produced during the year so far has only been for collab knives. So far they have not used any of the collaboration patterns in regular production.

Case has reissued some of the older colab knives in Thomas damascus(?) and from what I have seen the quality is the same.

They are not to be confused with Case limited editions. The shields are pinned, the liners are relieved for the blade tangs, Liners are steel, blades are of higher quality stainless (154CM and ATS-34 maybe even something else of that nature.) There is a lot more hand work in producing these knives. They are produced with just a few handle materials. (stag, chestnut bone, antique bone, ebony, pearl, and abalone)

Here is a pic of a few of the Collaboration knives.

I took this a couple of years ago and there are some missing from the pic.
Yukon Skinner.
Muskrat.
Cotton Sampler.
Tribal Spear.
Coffin Jack.

Kevin, You are correct. I think they were 154CM. I really have not seen any pics of the LC for this year other than the ones here and I am not carrying one of the colabs today.

Thanks Gus. I thought maybe the dealer sites were wrong about the past specs. I have found that to happen at times. I was also hopeful that you had an inside line for this years steel choice :)

I would jump at cpm154. I have plenty of 154cm and I like it very much but I like to try new steels, and cpm154 would be new to me.

Thanks,

Kevin

Daniel,

I think Gus summed it up pretty good. The only collabs I have ever owned are a couple of Norfolks and I think you have to get one in your hand to fully understand what you're paying for.

VANCE,

There are some pics in this link:

Thanx for the link containing the pics. Very impressive how the liners are milled out for tang clearance! I'll bet that blade action is Smooooth!

I found on the Case website specs of 154cm and 4" closed length for this upcoming Lanny's clip.

Sounds good to me.

WOW  @ Gus's pic. I am indeed going to love this knife! I had no idea the beauty and quality associated with the Annual Bose collaborations. If I didn't have a family to keep in food, clothing and shelter, I'd be on a hunt for EVERY ONE of those knives.

THanks, all, for the info and pics.

Just got an email from a big Case dealer. Bone handled LC's are $299.99, ebony $329.99, abalone $499.99, and stag $369.99. Blade steel is 154-CM and delivery is expected in September.

I am on order for a stag one, hope they dont over book the pre orders and I actually get it. Really looking foward to this knife.
