Case Bose or custom

I've had the pleasure and priviledge of owning some really nice customs from some great makers. Still do own a Pena Barlow but if I'm being completely honest with myself this Saldana Dog Bone I picked up on a whim from the sale section is and has been my absolute favorite. This one along with the Case Bose Cattle knife truly bring me joy. Manny Saldana is another great up and comer maker worth checking out. Great prices too!

For a pinch open you’ve got to consider a single blade. My Case/Bose Tribal Spear is pinchable and has become my favorite tradition, everything about it just feels right!

At the Arkansas Knife show I did see a few customs that had three small pins through the blade near the spine that worked SO well with a pinch open. It was the first time seeing this and was quite blown away by the ingenuity. I’ll try to dig up a picture.

I agree. I've seen custom versions but none beat the Case version. Mine's ebony too :). Best, most practical slipjoint I own!

I've owned both wharncliffe trapper and the coffin jack. The coffin was completely unpinchable but mine had a nice 5-6 on the pull. The wharncliffe blade on the trapper was pinchable but the clip was not.

For the pure mechanics of pinching a blade open, probably better off to focus on single blade knives.

My favorite collaboration knife is the wharncliffe lock back whittler...the main is pinchable but both secondaries are tough to get out.

If a pinchable blade is what you desire, I’d consider the Case/Bose Lanny’s clip or Zulu. I wouldn’t say that both blades are “pinchable” on the wt pattern. I own the CB versions as well as the real deal and have to use my nail to open the trapper blade.
Many of Todd’s patterns have pinchable blades as well. I’ve owned Todd’s work as well and you can’t go wrong if you Head this direction. Todd makes a fine knife. You can save yourself a little $$ on both options by searching the sale threads on BF. Best of luck to you on your search. Let us know what you decide.

I believe the Yukon, Arkansas hunter and Wilford Works lockback can be opened w/o nail nick.

The Wharncliffe sits behind the Clip and its spine rides higher. I can pinch open the Wharncliffe, aided somewhat by the grippiness of the Damascus. You'll need to use the nail nick to open the Clip... never broken a nail and I don't have particularly tough fingernails.

Yeah that knife is so cool. All of the customs posted are amazing too. I think you guys are both helping me narrow it down and giving me more to consider at the same time hahaha I used to only like single blades but multi bladed patterns are a huge draw now. I'll likely go with the trapper or even a cattle knife... Might do a 180 and get a custom from one of the makers mentioned. Bobby Toole's knives are beautiful!!
