I bought one, I recieved one, I am about to cry. It is one beautiful knife. I played with the main blade and just fell in love with it. Then I opened the two small blades. They both jiggle up and down alot. Their is no pressure from the springs on either blade when they are open. the two small blades have absaluty have zero walk and talk. I am crushed. I contacted the seller and ask them if each knife did that. I hope it's a bad seed and I can get a good one.

Yea thats pretty disapointing,I've never had a standard run of the mill case that was that bad, maybe a little wobble but never with week springs.Good luck getting it staightend out.

Kodiak that is far from normal and sadly the very first time I have heard a negative comment on the Collaboration knives. The whittler is one of my favorites with the locking mechanism and reminds me of a swiss watch.

I would turn that one in instantly and also write Case about the problem. These are the top shelve knives being made by Case and yes there is always room for mistakes but they need to know about it.

Sorry to hear that, I wouldn't give up on them yet.

Thanks guys. I am definetly not giving up on that knife. The dealer has not gotten back to me yet, when they do I hope they have a good one to send me. It is probably the best looking, feeling, knife I have ever held. I want a good one so bad now.

I hope this works out. (Dealer having others in stock.).

Of the one I own and few I handled, blade action was great.

Kodiak,

I had one with issues as you discribed, called Case repair center and recieved directions on how to ship it. Was told it would take 4 to 6 weeks to repair. I had it back in my hand 10 days after shipping. All problems resolved and was one of the best I have handeled. I was more than impressed with the Case repair center and highly recommend there service. IMO all the whittler's have been picked over and I think we will be seeing more with slight problems, I just hope that this will not stop collector/users from sending these in and getting a excellent knife in return.

I appreciate you recounting your experience with Case. I have a stag whittler that arrived with very weak springs on both secondary blades. It did dissapoint me. Even more so because it was the second one for me. The first had horizontal blade play. I just put it away and forgot about it. I think I'll call Case and see if I can get the same kind of response you did.

Thanks again,
Gary

Gary,

I have no doubt you will recieve some of the best service there is. Just be mindfull they will tell you 4 to 6 weeks after they recieve it. I was told they do this so that they never disappoint a customer.

You are more than welcome,
James

Thanks for the tip culpeppj. New Graham said the other one they have is loose also. I could send it back, but I would have to eat the shipping charges, both ways. I love the knife so I will try Case repair as you stated.

I'm really sorry to hear about that. I just got one and it arrived in perfect condition.

I was wondering when you would get yours davmgt. I'm am glad yours came good. Isn't it a great looking and feeling knife? I love the heft of it. The main blade opens so smooth and with a satifying "snap" to lock it in place. I'm going to post pictures of mine, I hope you can do the same! I'm going to send mine to Case for repare. I think it will make a great EDC.

Kodiak, it is an awesome knife. You are right about that main blade, it is stout! This is definitely a knife that will be used, and used often. I hope you get yours taken care of quickly. I'm sure Case will take good care of you.

i am v. surprised to hear of these problems with the Case/Bose Collabs. based on the low numbers produced, premium price and Mr. Bose's name attached to them, i had assumed every one was hand inspected to ensure that everything is perfect before the knife left the Case factory. obviously not ! i have a Yukon Jack coming and hope that the reason for selling was not some unstated "problem". roland

I was very surprised myself. The blade with T. BOSE printed on it (the little copping blade) jiggles up and down just awfull. The blade that says Case on it works great. It's kind of ironic.

Kodiak, send the knife back..I will refund your money, including shipping.
Mike

Just a thought on those whittlers with similar problems; If the springs were incorrectly tempered. they would POSSIBLY initially test out O.K., but the springs could quickly "relax", performing weakly. Hardening and tempering is done in batches, so that would account for the repeat problem. I wonder if Case is immediately replacing the springs, and sending them back out??

Thanks for the offer Mike. As I stated in my E-mail I am going to keep it and try to send it to Case for repair.

That is a good thought waynorth. If that was to happen would the springs on the spine still be perfectly flush?, because they are.

If you change your mind, let me know ASAP. We are sending the other one we have to Case next week. The pen blade is loose on it.
Not good for a 350.00 knife, even if it is production.

Kodiak, it probably wouldn't affect the flush fit; it just wouldn't have the resilience a spring needs to perform.

These knives are not a dealer problem , they are a Case problem. I have all the pieces they have made in bone. I have two of these and the dealer was kind enough to find good pieces. The pen blade seems to be the one that usually has a dead spring, but sometimes both. I love this knife and carry it on a regular basis. I would send any back to Case now as what is out there are probably problematic.
