Case Brings Back Yellow Delrin Handles to Their # 47 Pattern Stockman

I have a few of the '65 pattern hunters, none in yellow. Three are relatively 'old' (1970, 1976 and 1981), and the rest are all post-2000. Truth be told, I don't have much practical use for them either, but I've always been intrigued by the pattern. Also have similar patterns from Schrade and Queen.

I've picked up my copy of 'Pocket Knife Trader's Price Guide', and it lists two 1920-1940 yellow Folding Hunters, one a '3265' (2-bladed Folding Hunter) and a '3465' pattern (a FOUR-bladed Folding Hunter), both in yellow 'composite'. I saw one of the 4-blade versions on the auction site a few years ago, but don't remember what the additional 'blades' were. At any rate, both of those models are 'valued' in my guide at the low end of '$$$$' (the number of '$' is significant ;)) . I'd say there weren't too many of those around, even then. Don't know of any yellow & carbon/CV versions since. I think whatever yellow models might've been produced since then, were all stainless. Those might've been '80s/'90s vintage, but don't know if they even exist. I'll keep checking my book, though (my curiosity is piqued, now).

So, assuming it's really been that long, I guess I better grab one (or two) while I can. :D

Very cool. Thanks for the info, I had no idea about the early yellow versions. Agreed that maybe a guy should pick up one or two while they are available. Hard tellin how long they will continue them

Could you post where to get one at, as I would like to order one. thanks

doc, per forum and site guidelines we don't post such info here in our threads. Feel free to contact other members directly for such information if your online searches prove fruitless.

I may have to break down and get a couple more knives. Especially since I can probably afford one with derlin handles. I wonder if they will offer one with a pen blade instead of the spey blade?

Nice Ed! I had seen they brung those out and forgot about it:eek:! It's about time the good old 47 series made a come back, on the other hand that 92 sure is a pretty thing!

I ordered two late last week and received them today. As Ed had described, while I am not a Case expert, the snaps are indeed very crisp and fit-and-finish is really good! The delrin scales are even in color and the shield and pins are flushed on both sides. The brass liners are sandwiched nicely on all sides / edges and flushed as well. There are no half stops but the walk is smooth. No blade rubbing issues but I did noticed a blade of each knife has a scratch on them probably from being pushed too hard against the opposite blade by someone. The backspring of the master and spey blade are nearly dead flushed in both positions; while the backspring of the sheepfoot blade sit flushed when closed, it does protude just a hair proud when opened. There are no major rocking or side-to-side blade play. The Tru-Sharp SS blades are very sharp out the box, and one of the master actually has a nice finished point. The pull is about medium on all three however the sheepfoot is slightly lighter. I handled it for few minutes and there are no sharp / rough edges at all .. it actually feels really good in hand! My only other Case knife in the family is the Bose/Case Norfolk so my experience with Case knives in general is somewhat limited. For that matter, I am still new to the slip joint arena. I did this mini review based on comparison of the Norfolk, as well as few SAKs and a custom slimline trapper by Keith Johnson. I really like this Case Stockman and looking forward to some pocket time. I might have to send the second one to a custom maker so I can get a nicer replicant with a modified pen blade instead of the spey blade (thanks to all those photos posted by Elliott).

What ones would those be?

I believe he's referring to some of my custom built stock knives which have a modified pen blade at my request (which have been displayed in other threads in this sub-forum).

(I've only opened the thread and provided that information since you've decided to close the thread without giving seadweller the opportunity to answer your question.)

Thread re-opened at OP's request.

Sorry for the confusion; I want to clarify that I was refering to Elliott's other Stockmans with modified pen blade from varies custom makers I've seen. That's all.

Thank you for re-opening this thread, Ed!

seadweller -- Completely misunderstood the latter part of your post.

Glad to hear you got your two # 47 Stockmans. It is a great pattern. What changes do you have in mind for a custom maker to do to one of your knives?

Ed: No worries, it happens. Also thanks to Elliott as well. Anyway, I plan to send the second one in for the maker to use as a reference. I would like the custom 47 to increase the size to 4" in length, sunk joints, different material for scales / blade steel / liners / shield, add intergrated bolsters with bushing pivots and half stops, minor modifications to the blade profiles with swedges added, and of course a pen blade. I want to capture the basis of the 47 pattern but to enhance it more with my own specs and details.

Edit: back to the subject, got slightly derailed from original topic.

Love the spey blade on that one. I'm picky with the geometry of spey blades, and that one is as close to perfect as I can imagine.

If you're interested in a 4" stockman check out this link about a 4" Case 6392 Stockman I recently received. It's a great pattern and although not being currently made is still easily found with a bit of looking/shopping.

Got mine and I'm really happy with the knife. No blade rub. Good walk and talk. Sharp right out of the box.

Thanks to Blade forums for the great site and Modoc for the great news that this yellow 47 was available. Ordered and received mine and it has work written all over it. Love the Case 47 size.
