case brothers

Pardon my ignorance but can you tell me more about this issue? Or, where can I go to get more information? (I don't want to miss out on a good thing). Thanks

WR Case & Sons has come out with a new for 2003 line of about 10 patterns - with the old "Case Brothers" logo, jigged brown bone handles and (sadly) stainless steel blades. You can view the line at the Case website WRCASE.com or Shepherd Hills CASEXX.com

Thanks knifeaholic. I was making note of the pricing on these knives and saw a wide range between say Shepherd Hills and the Distinctive Edge. The photos seem like the same knife with the Case Brothers stamp on the blade tang(?). Am I comparing "apples" with "apples" or are there subtle differences on the advertised knives that are not readily apparent to a novice?

Also, are the stainless steel blades that you're not fond of made of ATS-34? If so, what's so bad about the material? Or is it just that other metals are more suitable for slipjoints?

I don't know all of the variations on these, but Case did come out with the standard "catalog" line that has maybe 10 models and are made of 420 stainless.

Then there are some limited releases (mucho $$$$) with green bone handles and ATS-34 blades. ATS-34 is a real "premium" steel.

knifeaholic, okay that explains it. I saw the "mucho $$$" limited release versions on one site and probably the regular versions on the other site. I'm still missing a Seahorse Whittler in my collection and that green bone limited release example is sure tempting.

If you like stag handles check out www.knifeworks.com and look at the Case Bro. stag handled knives coming out in limited run by Dec. Thought you might like these. They cost a bit more but I also collect the seahorse whittlers and would realy like to have at least one of these. Just something to look at... ;)
