I was wondering if any of the fine folks here own any ? Have some of those fantastic pictures you guys take ? And ,thoughts ,mini reviews ? Do they have liners ? What is the snap like,on the backpocket ?

Thanks in advance for any & all help,-Vince

OK so I realize, after looking around a bit on the internet, they are a bit pricy.
I know of one knife maker who recently made a statement,to me, saying "I love the stuff but won't pay the premium" and I'll leave him un named .

But really,someone,show one !

Did you ever see the movie Open Range, and the part where Duvall is in the general store, before the big gunfight & buys the expensive chocolate...And what he says to the store owner ??

Interesting you mention that as ZT of all people have announced their first full CF knife . . . the 0770CF. It's hardly a traditional, of course. But with a carry weight of only 3 ounces, to call it a departure from ZT's design philosophy could be the knife industry's understatement of the year.

SMKW has pictures of the Case CF knives on their web site. Somehow I can't quite wrap my mind around CF scales on a traditional slip joint. They're just too modern for me.

"It was right there in front of you the whole time."

It's like evolution of a knife nut.

I used to like smaller size folders, but now larger.
I used to shy away from cf & preferred micarta over it hands down. Now,I'm really loving the stuff.

I know it is not that traditional. But on the other hand,I can't "wrap my mind" around the idea that alot of traditional knife enthusiasts love jigged bone & on customs, too. When it started out as a cheap easy to get material. IMO is totally an inferior choice for scales (heck even ebony probably holds up better than cow bone) . But that's just me & take no offense

So now I wonder if the sales of this Case line is down due to price point

That may be part of it. But I'd still be willing to bet the primary reason their not selling is because people like me can't "wrap their minds" around them. ;) I mean, can you imagine a ZT 0200 with Sambar Stag scales? :D

Good info on jigged bone scales, by the way. I don't own a lot of traditional knives. But you're clearly an expert on them. When I do purchase them, I'll stay away from jigged bone.

Thanks. :)

Yeah, I get that but I'm just the opposite in terms of evolution. I have a cabinet full of large "modern" folders with all kinds of fancy steels, locking mechanisms and materials. I like them. But I've basically ignored most of them since I got into traditionals. I'm sure we all go through phases of interest and it's good to have a variety. You just have to recognize the relative pros and cons of each type of knife and enjoy them for what they are I suppose.... And sorry for straying off topic... :-)

Not really off topic,it comes right down to trying stuff. I'd buy one of those Case carbon fiber's to try,if,it had liners other than the CF itself

Which raises the interesting question of why you'd need liners on a CF knife. CF is strong enough that it doesn't really need liners. And one of CF's biggest advantages is weight reduction. I've got a Small Sebenza with an unlined CF scale and it's more than sturdy enough to get the job done. Sweet thing is, it only weighs 2.3 ounces. OUTSTANDING!!! :)

This is a great point I won't debate. I guess for me it's like the bone thing,go figure,I want liners though.

Yes, I get it. Which brings it all back to why someone would want CF on a traditional to begin with. The answer for me is, no way!!!

That's a fair question. Unfortunately, you're really asking the wrong guy. I own far more one-handed openers than traditionals and both of my traditionals are single-blade lockbacks (a Case Copperlock and a Ken Steigerwalt custom). I'd suggest you ask guys that are more into traditionals than I am.

Not my favorite by "pattern" but it seems the stockman might be a good buy of the lot since it has 3 blades. I like all of them.

I'd really like to try a Backpocket in CF. It is a bit pricey, though.

The problem for me is I would PROBABLY like the CF handled knife, but I know FOR SURE that (for the same or less money) I'd love another stag, bone, or wood covered slippie.

I have been looking at the sodbuster in cf, it is my favorite traditional pattern and I am a fan of carbon fiber. I know it is not traditional.....but it is light and strong and I think it looks great!

Honestly, I like some of the modern materials, but I just can't seem to get into Case's Carbon Fiber stuff... especially for the price. I just don't like the way it looks.

My reasoning on this deal... I'm into the customs..so I gravitate towards the stockman, because a knife like that in a custom is one I can't afford to have many of. It is unique, that cf stockman by Case.
