Case Carbon Fiber Lineup

I don't like the look of the Case carbon fiber knives. Case knives are fine but the tool is the same no matter what the handle material. I liked jigged bone and other natural materials specifically because they are traditional materials. For some reason I can live with Delrin but I don't want G-10 or CF.

And for the price premium, I'd rather it go into the steel or build quality. If I want a modern-looking knife with a higher price tag I'll buy a Spyderco, Kershaw, etc. Just my personal preferences.

I honestly can't figure out who their target audience is. Most collectors tend to prefer knives that are pretty, and will pay a premium for abalone or mother of pearl or blade embellishments, but not for something that makes it more expensive while looking more utilitarian. And most users are going to want something more affordable for a"work tool". A Delrin handled Sodbuster for around $22 cuts just the same as the $90 CF version.

Looks can be deceiving. I didn't like the look of the (removed non BF dealer member reference) Exclusive Small Sebenza in carbon fiber, but I rolled the dice and got one anyway based on the weight savings alone. Turns out the carbon fiber on that knife is some of the nicest I've ever seen. From a collector's point of view, Case's CF knives may be worth collecting if for no other reason than I don't think they're going to sell very well. If I'm right about that, their prices may rise due to rarity. That's just a WAG on my part, of course.

I'd be way more enthusiastic about the Case carbon fiber line if the steel was commensurate with the price. I was unaware of the CF Back Pocket until mentioned in this thread, and I was excited until I saw the price (even if it does come with a free T-shirt). For that much I can get a modern knife with CF handles and a premium supersteel, or a GEC Northfield with stag handles.

I own the Sodbuster JR in Carbon fiber so here are my thoughts. It's a nice knife even if it's quirky for the pattern. It is super light, thin and easy to carry. That said, it's not worth what they are selling it for and the only reason I shelled out the money is due to the fact that I collect sodbusters. In fact, the new Amber bone Sodbuster is almost the same thickness, same steel and just as easy a carry with a more traditional look for half the price, no brainier for me if I had to choose. The Carhart series makes way more sense to me than the carbon fiber, but that's just my opinion. I also don't get how they decide to make the Sodbuster in Carbon fiber but not in the Carhart Brown Delrin...??

While I don't have the CF stockman, I did decide to try the G10, and I really like it. Yeah, I know, G10 is definitely not a "traditional knife" material, but there is just something about it.

It does have bolsters while the CF stockman doesn't. I've never tried a shadow pattern on anything but a single blade, so I've been hesitant. But if I were to buy one of Case's CF knives it most likely would be the stockman pattern.

Cheers,
Griff

I had the Soddie Jr. The only reason I picked it up was because I had rewards points with a local hardware. No liners. The only thing they have going for them is the weight. Very light. But, I barely notice carrying a delrin soddie for that matter. Overpriced in my opinion. I ended up selling it and making $15.

I love the Case CF line. I had a Lrg Sodbuster but sold it for two reasons. 1) I like a pocket clip on my knife and 2) for $100. I'd rather carry my D2 Para.
