Case chestnut bone soddie !

I'm pretty pumped that they are releasing a few different soddies this year, they seem to be expanding the pattern each year over the last few years. That said, why not have the black delrin in CV and why not make the soddie jr in white delrin and the two Carhart handles? I'll never be happy, always finding something to bitch about:D For real though, good stuff by Case on the new handle choices.

But ilmonster is STILL wrong. Lots and lots of people like Carbon Steel blades and have never heard of Blade Forums.
That's a little harsh. I don't think he's wrong at all. Nearly all of the pocket knife users I've encountered in the "real world" have preferred stainless over carbon (at least, until someone has converted them to the dark side...).

I guess things are a lot different in Philly than in West Virginia! I interact with and sell knives to people in at least 4 states, not counting the internet. 25 Shows a year. The vast majority prefer Carbon Steel Blades. A vast majority, at least 95% per cent of these knife people, have never heard of KnifeForum. Not trying to be harsh, just relating MY experiences in the "Real World".

That is a good looking Sodbuster Jr.... Considering it will be in CV, it is quite tempting. Maybe my new Micarta GEC Bullnose can have a little competition.
I'm also looking forward to the saw-cut green bone. Too bad they don't have a Soddie in any of their Carhartt branded knives. I haven't seen one of those I haven't liked yet.

Yes, I would guess (and hope) things certainly are different between PHL and WV. Fortunately for all of us, things are not the same everywhere... which is also why a blanket statement like "nope, you're wrong, everybody prefers this" is neither accurate nor quite as cordial as most of us try to behave. One would think that it's fairly obvious that most patrons of knife and gun shows are within the "in the know" crowd, and yes, many of them likely prefer carbon steel. That, however, is but a small segment of the American populace, many of whom are satisfied with the mystery stainless in their gas station knives. Those people, unfortunately, vastly outnumber the knife/gun show crowd, and the experienced knife user crowd.
I'm glad that you've had such good experiences with your customers, and that you've been able to keep your orbit largely within knife-friendly circles. Many of us do not have that luxury.

And, I'm glad to see that these new bone sodbusters will be offered in CV!

I really like the Chestnut bone version. I hope they will start giving us some more color choices with the CV blades on other patterns as well. :)

I think nearly everyone in this thread could be right! It is like saying I like the print on a $10 bill better than a $20 bill; or I like a red knife better than a amber knife. Stainless has its place for those that do no want to spend the time taking care of a carbon knife. Carbon knives have also found their way into many collections. Anybody that makes any kind of specific statement about knives and their use or collecting; can probably be proven wrong if you study a general demographic very close.

Although over the years the Case sales have dropped off, I have seen little change in the steel sales in general. I don't setup at shows, but deal with all 50 states plus territories online. And there are plenty of folks that put Trusharp to work daily and love it. There are also many that will collect a pattern regardless of the steel.

The chestnut sodbuster caught my eye a few days ago as well, as did a dozen other patterns that seemed to be a good value from Case. I hope they can find the magic mix between keeping the functional and the collecting folks both happy for the benefit of the company and employees.

I also deal with customers in all 50 states and worldwide online. And I agree that there is no "right" or "wrong" between Carbon Steel or TruSharp Stainless Steel.
What I referred to as wrong was this statement by "ilmonster" in post #3 in this thread, and I quote "I'm guessing most non-Bladeforum type folks just want stainless/TruSharp as there is no care needed (wiping your blade off if cutting an apple for instance)." end quote. And I stand by my statement. And the Sodbuster Jr. has also caught my eye.

No doubt your range is vast, it would be good to get your international sampling. What I meant to say was that I see no hard/fast trends based on any national demographic.

But, for the record, I would contend that ilmonster was exactly correct. He stated "I'm guessing..."; I have no doubt whatsoever he was guessing which is perfectly legitimate - whether or not his guess is right or not, may be up for discussion ;)

Good eye on the amber stainless model; I was actually referring to the chestnut model as there has seemed to be some latent demand for that combination (bone/CV).

Impatience building here:D:D

Does anybody know the approx release date for the Chestnut Sod ? Will pricing be about the same as GEC's knife do you think?

I think it was suppose to be manufactured this month. Should be a little south of $40.

I'm just going to disagree with you here. Carbon steel is right and stainless is wrong. :D :p

Now this is not a fact only an observation. CASE I believe is a pretty savvy knife company. I also believe based on the numbers they crunch and I have to believe any good business crunches numbers? Heck I do in my business to survive. But after crunching numbers they (CASE) must feel that the majority of sales fall into the "Stainless" category so this is why they continue to produce the vast majority of "Stainless" knives

Wrong? I've been before and am sure I will be again ;) Therefore I feel many (not all) people outside of this "Traditional" forum buy stainless? Nothing wrong with that either.

I also feel that most (not all) in this traditional forum prefer Carbon steel, me being one of them. I LOVE CARBON BLADES

This being said I feel ilmonster is not "Wrong" by any means. I'd like to think we can agree to disagree without one or the other having to be 100% right or wrong.

And yes!!! I can't wait to get a new Amber Bone CV Soddie :p:thumbup:

The Chestnut is a great lookin knife... Purple bone ? I like purple and need to look and see what other patterns they will be offering in this color...
I actually wouldn't mind having one of those, but I don't like that particular shield. YMMV of course

I have wondered for a long time, how many people know there are SS and CV knives, or if they even care ?

Da! Sandvik et alia allowed me to enjoy the taste of fruits&other delicacies previously tasting of rust&oil....:barf:

But seriously, this new CASE Sodbuster will be very welcome in my home. if I can get one... thanks to Mike for the update.

Regards, Will

Soddies should just be carbon steel bladed. It just fits their heritage. But... I have no problem carrying my smooth chestnut bone Case mini-trapper with Tru-Sharp though. But, a Case Sodbuster in any size or scale material just sort of calls for a CV blade. Like chicken fried steak calls for milk gravy.
