Case collections

Great pics and some really beautiful knives gents, thanks for sharing them. The older one are incredible. Unfortunately, I think I'm going to be in the same position as Andi -
No historical Cases around in this part of the world :(

Great knives, guys, and Charlie, those Tested Cattle knives with the bomb shields are absolutely magnificent!

I have abandoned the argument about "what is real Case Redbone?"! There are some who say it only appears on XX era knives.

I share the opinion that Redbone describes a very specific era in Case production history. Potassium permanganate treated bone produces a wide variety of red colors, but 'Redbone' is, IMO, unique to '50s era XXs.

So Rick, do you know how the dye treatment went?
PP over a red dye, or vice versa, or, or, or . . . . . .??
Since Case hasn't replicated it in more modern times, I thought it had something to do with banned chemicals. Or maybe they have chosen not to copy it exactly, to avoid antagonizing collectors of the historical knives.. . .?

Here's a nice pocket-sized Hawkbill from an earlier day!

Getting my hands on a vintage Case knife is high on my list. Some real nice ones in this thread!

I'm in the same boat. It's hard to find even newer Case knives over here :( I've a few I've managed to get over the years and I like them a lot, just wish there was more available to choose from.

No clue, here. The banned chemical hypothesis seems pretty convincing. I find it a little hard to believe that Case wouldn't duplicate the color if they had the means, but ya never know.

Thanks, Rick. I wonder if anyone actually knows the whole story??

Jacknife, you are doing very well considering your location! Mine is not as bad as yours, but Canada can be a challenge sometimes!!

Found another premium pic - (non-redbone:D) 10 dot Stockman Knives:

I still have all the knives I've pictured in this thread, except the old Tested Greenbone 6347.
Wouldn't mind adding a minty one some day, but they are mighty pricey!

I have more Case knives than any others, starting with the knives I collected when Case became affliated with, and did inter-company promotions with Zippo...and I don't have any pics of those(!)
Other than my newly arrived vintage 6445R red bone Camper/Scout (~1971), all of mine are recent manufacture. My favorites (perhaps obviously) are the BSA shield models. Of those, I have a real soft spot for the blue bone Junior Scout:

My pics stink compared to everyone's here though ;)
