I'm looking at the new Case Crossroads Black Burlap Laminate XR Sod Buster® Jr with Dayglow G-10 liners.

How do these work in real life? I carried a cheap Boker version a long time ago and found the blade to be a bit thick so, not a good cutter for my use at the time. The S35VN version looks pretty nice. How does it cut? Is it reasonable for something like a bagel, sandwich, or some fruit? Is it very thick behind the edge?

TIA,
Sid

The two I had from long ago were both very thick behind the edge so, great for electric fence wire but, pretty bad with everything else. Never owned or handled a Case version though so, that's why I asked.

Ditto what Modoc ED Modoc ED said. I recently bought the black one and the fit and finish is excellent and came razor sharp out of the box. The S35VN blade steel is a bonus and is perfect for EDC tasks.

It's gratifying to hear that their cutting ability is excellent, they look very cool as well, like the Old&New aspect here very much indeed . On the lookout for a Green or Brown one .

They are out there in pretty good numbers. Most are ~$70 with a few discount coupons at some sites. Even Amazon had some last time I looked though that's not a site I would use for a slip-joint purchase. Amazon sightings are a good sign that your favorite knife retailer will have them in stock. In my list of preferred vendors, a couple are sold out or on backorder for certain models, but all 3 flavors are out there for ~$70.

The real question is, do you wait for a July 4th sale or risk a "rush" of orders and have to wait for a restock? 🤣

I don’t have the crossroads knife, but I’ve used Case sodbusters and Jrs. for years and I’ve always been impressed by their cutting ability. Great knives, some of my favorites for sure.

And while I will say that this is a cool, sharp knife I wish Case would teach someone how to sharpen!! I do like a point on my blade!! 😊
John 😁

jmh33 jmh33 - The blade tips on these are plenty pointy enough and the blades sharp enough to keep the Johnson & Johnson Band-Aid division in business for years to come. I got two of each color and have been carrying the green/black laminate wood version every day. As to thick behind the edge, I think that's a matter of personal taste. They're just right for me but your mileage may very. Actually, I got three of the green/black laminate wood versions but only took a picture of two of them because I've already gifted one of them away.

Mine came with a rounded point and unsharpened at the tip.
This year I am having horrible luck getting very poor sharpened Case

jmh33 jmh33 - Sorry to hear that but doesn't sound like it'd take more than 10-minutes on a stone to remedy. Seems that several knives with stonewashed blades come with somewhat rounded tips regardless of company.

I agree Ed.👍
Just gets frustrating. Been buying Case knives for ALOT of years and seems to be getting worse.
And I will continue!! 🤣

To add to the above, the crossroads I have are well made. Just checked all of mine before saying none have gaps, cracks, chips, drips, runs, or errors. The two Xes in the mark side covers are cut/stamped sharp and crisp. All in all, they're solid knives.

An example:

Blue Denim micarta? I'll be in. I have a couple of the Crossroads and do enjoy them, that blue is one of my favorites, so I'll need one of these for sure.
Yes, looks very good, has white liners .

Recently, somebody posted up a video of forthcoming CASE releases and this Blue Denim featured in it as well.
