Photos Case G6199 1/2

I just picked up this 3299 1/2 which funny enough the seller was calling a Railsplitter. I didn’t think it was that since I just acquired a Rough Ryder Rail Splitter — which is a totally different pattern.

Appears to be a Swell End Jack with End Cap. It does surely have some of the most beautiful smooth yellow bone I’ve ever seen, and those pretty old patina-fading Nickel Silver bolsters. The blades are in such good shape (too good?) for the supposed 1974-75 era based on the 5-dot and tang stamp. No SS stamp either so could this be 50 year old carbon steel with not a single pepper spot or patina mark?
@waynorth and @Modoc ED I would love your opinion on this one. AND, how does this pattern relate to the Case 6199 1/2 model named in the original post?

Still have this lovely 3299 I got from Blues Blues a few years back:

Photo is old, but the knife and my hand look about the same.
I find these two examples interesting. I heard that the case shield with a circle meant bone and without a circle meant wood or delrin. I thought this was true throughout the 70s. But, maybe this was only true until '69? Or even just generally true but never a hard rule?

I also had never seen yellow bone on older case knives though. I assumed things like yellow bone didn't exist until case marketing went crazy in the 90s. So, I'm clearly still learning 😂 Either way, fantastic looking knives!!

That is another beauty. Is that also in yellow bone or just REALLY good looking Case delrin?

That is yellow Delrin. It is in like-new condition, plus a little Renaissance Wax to make it pop a bit. It was a gorgeous knife when I got it from Blues Blues and it is not going to get messed up on my watch. :)

That was a gift in memory of my beloved Weimaraner "Smoky". I'm very glad you still have it, John.
I would never part with it, without letting you know first, and giving you dibs on just me returning it to you. It is one of those that will go in the Estate Sale at some hopefully distant future date.

I do always remember Smoky whenever I look at or think about that knife. I believe we discussed in PMs how I chose to pay it forward.

I don't really USE it much because I have beaters that get the brunt of the work, though I do have some pics of when I first got it and it helped with opening a few boxes.

The "3" in the 3299 is supposed to indicate smooth Yellow Synthetic (Delrin brand synthetic at the time that one was made). The "6" prefix is kind of overloaded but usually means bone, either smooth or jigged, or jigged wood or jigged synthetic.

I am guessing that yellow bone version shown earlier was a really beautifully done rehandle at some point.

You should feel free to use it in any way you see fit, John. It's the fact that you still have it and it's valued by you that makes it special for me.
Smoky was last with us in July, 2013. "Skyler", who came to live with us three months later is now gone as well. "Kobe" has been with us going on two years.

Gotta love them dogs, despite the heartache of them passing.

I wish you several more decades, John. And happy ones, at that.
