Case Hobo

Ach, that's a beauty, far more beautiful "in person" than in Case's stock picture(s) once again.

...What if Meako's bear comes before you have time to reassemble your hobo knife? ;)

If it's apart, you already have your knife out...

It was a gift from my father back when I did a lot of motorcycle camping.

That's something Duane, mine was gifted to me by my moms late husband, who used it for motorcycle traveling. It has a bit of sentimental value to me.

I had one for a while, never used it, so sold it. They are pretty "cool."

Case makes a specific belt pouch for it too, nice leather with HOBO embossed on the front. My younger son wanted black nylon for his, he's still a bit into the 'tactical' side yet. ;)

I'm sorry "meako". I'm just not geting that. I'm old (pushing 70) but I was hoping my mind hadn't started to fade yet.

Anyway I gotta chime in to the OP and say they are very cool knives.

I remember "Big Rockcandy Mountain" from when I was a kid. What I don't recall for certain was whether it was an old 45 rpm single or an even older 78. I think it was a 78.

Ohh, the buzzin' of the bees in the cigarette trees
Near the sody water fountain.
And the lemonade springs
Where the bluebird sings
In that big rock candy mountain

I spent a lot of hours singing that when I was little.

I own a few newer Case knives, this being one. They're cool and all, but as a lefty it's pretty much impossible to use it for its intended purpose.

I've never handled one of these, but as a fellow lefty, please share why :)

I´m also interessted, why that design doesn´t work for lefties - I´m one, too.

But the whole design is pretty interessting. It reminds me on the Picknick knives made by Hartkopf, Hubertus etc etc in Solingen. Which are usually without a spoon. I have on my (longer) list - made by a traditional cutlery in Solingen. I didn´t know that the Case Hobos could get into their parts (though it makes sense... it would be hard to use a fork without a knife)

Haha! I actually had to dig mine out and see if I was nuts. See the curve in both the fork and the spoon? It seems much more ergonomic to hold in your right hand than left. Doesn't matter much for the fork as it's flat and you can use it in either hand, but the spoon is really awkward for me in my left hand, with the curve going away from my mouth... (Okay, now as I'm in front of my computer sticking an empty knife and fork in my mouth... I guess you can do it, but I think I'd rather have my old boy scout knife, fork and spoon set. honestly though, as I don't backpack, I just take regular silverware with me when I camp. That, and about a dozen knives...

Thanks for the update, I see what you're saying - they do have a pronounced curve.
