Case "kabar" style knife added to my collection...

It was bone dry when I received it yesterday, but a little oil today completed it being nice and even blacker.

Yes sir. Adding oil is the right thing to do for another reason as well. Steel with a phosphate finish is not terribly rust resistant until you oil it.

Jimmy, I forgot that also have an Ontario SP1 Spec Plus Marine Combat that I bought used several years ago. It is an exceptional field knife as well being the traditional USMC knife with a rubber handle. The Ontario stuff is great.

Having lightly oiled both the Ontario and Ontario/Case Marine Corps knives, I was able to compare both side by side...

Yup, except for the differently finished leather handles and blade markings, they are definitely the same knife. I'm actually starting to like both equally as much... but having both, I don't have to choose between them :-)

Nice "all business" looking knives that are obviously meant to be used, and will likely live unhappily with me in display cases.... but they'll just have to live with it, lol! ;-)

Had to put the Case (OKC made) Marine Corps knife away while I decided where and how to display it in my collection. Anyhow, move this here, that over there, and bingo... room was made in one of my existing displays :-)

Only two knives left that I currently have not put out in a display... and of course they will eventually be made to fit my home's displayed knife collection. I find it fun to do this stuff! :-)

Thanks for the history. I have seen the Ka-bar style case for years and wondered if they produced any for the military. Very cool knives.

Thanks, fellas! If I am not mistaken, I believe that the last military contracts given out for kabar type knives was done by Ontario Knife Company of NY. Ontario still makes these knives for civilian sales, and they make the Case version under contract for Case Knives. Even though the Marines are not likely to place an order for these knives anymore, they do contract Ontario Knives to make their Marine Corps specific bayonet. Ontario also makes the standard m9 bayonet under military contract. Too bad Camillus went under, sure hoping Ontario keeps holding strong ground with both the US military, and civilian customers :-)
