My favorite slipjoint pattern has long been the cattleman knife. My favorite production knife is a 60 year old Imperial, and I hope to soon have a custom version. While reading Knives Illustrated this morning I noticed that Case will soon release a new model called the Humpback Stockman. It's an equal end knife, with spearpoint, sheepsfoot, and spey blades. The first knives will have stag handles (yeah!) with other handle materials to follow. The only problem is that the knives won't be sporting CV blades, but rather Tru-Sharp stainless. Still, this new design has me pretty excited.

Thanks for the heads up, I hadn't heard about that one.
Should be a real beauty with stag. I'm glad to see they are pursuing new patterns...

They are going to have a whittler version,as well.I saw an ad in Knife World & they looked good.G-10,too

My latest SMKWs catalogue has the Case Humpback Stockmans in stag, blue lagoon bone, and harvest orange bone. I like the look of this new pattern as I'm partial to cattle style patterns! I hope they sale well!

I got a G-10 coming my way very soon-I can't wait-I like the looks of that one!!!

I noticed those in the latest Shepherd Hills catalog. The Stockman and Whittler versions both look pretty neat. I might go for a Stockman in harvest orange bone.

The "new" 046 pattern is actually a revival of a seldom seen old Tested XX era pattern. Meet the Case Tested XX 23046 humpback cattleman, unfortunately somewhat over "cleaned", but still recognizable (I think the originals were 3 3/8" -- seems the new ones are 3 5/8"):

Great looking knife. I'd like to see the stockman pattern with a punch instead of the spey. That smooth black one is a dandy.

Wish there was more patterns in CV though.

Well I am glad they are making them in Tru Sharp SS. I prefer that to CV. Not like the chestnut that I love, but only has cv blades, so I won't buy one. Not till they come out in TS SS.

OK. Let the flaiming begin. LOL

I've been looking at this knife for some time now and really like the design. I'm interested in hearing more of it's usefullness and how you guys that own one think of it over time.

Pics would be great

Thanks in advance

Thanks, Elliott!

If theye going to make that pattern again I definately want one.

The Harvest Bone is a really attractive scale choice, the knife's dimensions are just right as well, although a long pull would be nice as per the original.

Mine came with a nice tin too, but it also came with some unpleasant faults:both Spear and Sheepfoot have a lot of blade wobble, very noticeable, and big gap in the backspring drags it down quality wise. This is my first sub-standard CASE, i've been very pleased with the dozen or more others I have. As I live outside the USA CASE seems to be dithering about this, I last heard from them in October, I reminded them on Friday and I hope they will honour this.GEC replaced a knife for me immediately without any hesitation.I'll keep you posted.

No flaming, but I'm just curious why no love for CV? And, seriously, it is just curiousity. I personally have never had a CV blade, but hear a lot of love for it, and am going to get a yellow handled Case, either a medium stockman or a Trapper, very soon, just to see for myself. What is your reason for not liking CV?

For this offense, you must say two "Hail Carbon Steel's", whistle "The Knives of our Grandfathers" and you will be forgiven. ;):D

Seriously, it's all good. I know people who have extremely acidic sweat and cannot carry carbon steel or it rusts on them (the orange stuff, not the grey patina), who live by the ocean, or who simply prefer their metal shiny. It's all good, and we are all part of the slipjoint fold. Dare I say, Go thy way and flick no more?
